Service Engine Soon Light

On my 93 Deville 75,000 miles on the way home today the SESL light came on but went off withen a minute several times the car seems fine we have had some very extreme weather here from -10 to 50 with a major ice storm withen a week I put some Dry gas in today to see if that may help. Any other sugestions would help and will it be ok to drive? Thanks Kraig

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

turn the ignition switch to the on position and then simultaneously push the off and warmer buttons and hold for 3 seconds. You should then see codes flash across the Fuel Data Center. They will begin with the letter E or F. Write them down and let me know what they are.

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

Thank you so much for your help I stopped at the local Cadillac dealer and they seemed to think that my cataletic converter may be getting clogged due to me getting a rotten egg smell from the exhaust but they would not know what it was till they hooked it up to a computer at a charge of $75.00 so you are saving me alot of money. The code that came up is E44 that is the only one I saw. Thanks for your help and I will see what your reply is. Thanks Kraig

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

E44-Oxygen Sensor Signal Lean
code will be set when; 1. There is an oxygen sensor circuit fault giving a false lean indication or 2. When the air fuel ratio is actually lean due to a vacuum leak or fuel control system fault.

Re: Service Engine Soon Light

Thank you for the answer, now if it is a vacuum leak how will I find that out and what is a fuel control system fault could that be injectors or something? Thanks Kraig
