Question 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L Hesitation probs

My S10 Chevy S10 2.2L 2WD has a typical problem, common in this and other forums, with hesitation at acceleration. Sometimes it misses on acceleration and every now and then it will hit a plateau and stop accelerating until you let off of the gas for a second.

The truck has 120,000 miles and I have replaced the following parts to try to remedy the problem:

ACDelco plugs (new)
ignition wires
both ignition coils
fuel filter
fuel pressure regulator
air filter
O2 Sensor
throttle position sensor

the throttle body is very clean
evidently there's not an EGR valve on the 2.2L model
4 bottles of different brands and quality of fuel injector cleaner

any good ideas to try....shy of replacing every sensor, injector, and fuel pump

Ditto. Was experiencing occasional stumble (freeway driving) on flats. Problem worsened to stumbling on slight grades. Now stumbling is almost constant at times, also has started hesitating on gentle accelleration from stops.

Injectors?
Water in fuel?
Shorting in distributor?

FTR: 98/2.2L S10, 140K. Have replaced Cat-Conv once.

Re: 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L Hesitation probs

I never resolved my issue but seems to only happen when i am over the speed of 60. Since I have changed my driving route to work I haven't really noticed it i am driving under the speed of 60.

classic problem- almost sure it is the cat converter. chevy had a recall on a few years of the s10 for that prob- said the power and acceleration would be poor and would die out- had mine fixed by the dealer when i started noticing the power prob on my 98 2.2

Been there, replaced that. This seems to be a different problem. With the CAT problem there was no momentary stumble accelerating from stop. With CAT problem performance got worse with higher RPM (and back-pressure.) Current problem shows-up at normal freeway speeds and seems to dissappear if I just downshift. So doing 80mph up a hill in 4th is not a problem (impossible when CAT was a problem.)

Cheers

Re: 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L Hesitation probs

did anything improve even temporarily when you replaced everything you replaced. does the weather make a difference? if you havent had the timing chain done that might be an option. even if the chain didnt slip, there are several other things they check in the motor when they check the timing. also, make sure they adjusted everything in the motor when they do/did the timing chain. if its not that it sounds like a solenoid or sensor to me...
there are lots of posts for this prob at s10forum.com. seems like different things have worked for diff people. let me know if you get it fixed- got a 2.2 as well and it seems be a common prob. i have 90k on it, want to know if i can fix if i have same prob

For the record:
The solution (in my case) was to replace the throttle-position-sensor ( ~$60)

Had forgotten about this thread until somebody posted recently!

Cheers.

Re: 1999 Chevy S10 2.2L Hesitation probs

Just started having a problem with mine. 1999 S-10 2.2L automatic with 82k on it. Literally can't go up hills over ~25mph. Higher RPMs kill it. Any suggestions? I'm dying over here lol
