Sportage Blower Motor Resistorjjcyr 12-28-2004, 09:36 AM My dealership just informed that the Blower Motor resistor on my sportage is shot and they want to charge me $255 to replace it. Does anyone know where this is located in the car so I can replace it myself? My suspicion is that it is behind the glove box...can anyone help me??? Thanks!! Aiieee 01-05-2005, 03:46 PM According to the Service Manual I have (2002) the resistor is attached to the blower motor assembly (ducting that holds the motor and impeller) located behind the glove box. I'm not sure if you can see it without removing the glove box itself. With the blower motor assembly still on the vehicle the resistor is just rear (vehicle's rear) and to the left (driver side) of the blower motor. It is wired to the same harness that the blower motor is. The manual doesn't a tell how to replace it however - I have no idea what its held on with. Hope this helps. karyl 02-10-2005, 09:29 AM I purchased a used 2001 Kia Sportage in Sept. It is still under warranty. I have had to have the blower replaced twice. Today again no fan!! Well I do not have the problem...but I think I could. Each time I use the blower at full speed, it does not take long for it to start smelling like burnt wiring, so I never use it at full speed except when I start it cold, wait for the engine to warm up with blower at low/medium speed to avoid more fog in the windshield, and then when engine is warm, use full speed blower for a few minutes only, then slow back blower . I think the motor windings would be gone if I kept it full speed for long. I don't usually run it on High, except for the really cold days we've had. We had a lot of snow and ice yesterday. That must have done it.
