dome light + aftermarket radioacunat 12-27-2004, 06:53 PM Hey, my dome light no longer works now that i've put in an aftermarket cd player. Well, it doesn't go on when the doors are open. Is there anyway to fix it / rewire it w/o leaving in the old radio behind the dash? (also, i don't want to buy a new harness/wire kit) Greenblurr93 12-27-2004, 06:56 PM have you checked to make sure the light isnt blown?? tencent 12-28-2004, 11:30 PM That would be like the worst car ever if taking out your radio caused your dome light to stop working. civicunrest 01-01-2005, 09:26 PM check your fuses anytime i see that problem at the shop i work at was usually due to a blown fuse either under the dash or under the hood.. use a test light because their are time when a fuse may not look blown to the eye but doesn't allow current to flow.with a test light touch the metal tabs (on the top of the fuse)on both side of the fuse if the test light doesn't light up when you touch both sides replace the fuse and you will eventually find the fuse.one thing i forgot to tell you make sure you turn you key on because certain fuses will only have power to them when the key is turned on that way you are not replacing fuses you don't need to.i hope this helps acunat 01-03-2005, 01:03 AM no no, its not a fuse, its not the bulb. It happens when you remove the stock radio from certain models. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to rewire it w/o buying a harness so that the light turns on when the doors are open (it works fine when i use the switch). tencent 01-06-2005, 09:22 AM what model and year do you have? simatic 03-16-2005, 06:14 PM what model and year do you have? worst u say?? changed my radio, and now my intrument panel doesnt light up, nor do my rear lights and turn signals 94hondaacc 03-23-2005, 01:49 PM worst u say?? changed my radio, and now my intrument panel doesnt light up, nor do my rear lights and turn signals now thats a blown fuse im sure. literalation 09-16-2005, 10:34 PM i saved this when I bought my daughter a 96..may help ya :smokin: -Car Audio Technical Pages 1996-1998 Honda Civic Head Unit Installation With Dome Light Circuit Bypass T O O L S N E E D E D Pair of Crimpers, Screw Driver, Wire Strippers M A T E R I A L S Butt Connectors, Carpet, Duct Tape The Issues In the 1996-1998 Honda Civic the factory keyless entry and the dome light circuits are inside the factory radio. When you pull the radio out you will notice the normal Honda harness, an antenna, maybe a DIN cord and then an extra green plug. This green plug controls the dome light and the keyless entry. Factory Keyless Entry There is no easy way to bypass the factory keyless entry. You can still add an aftermarket radio, but you'll have to hide the old radio some place in the car. The radio will fit behind the cigarette lighter, if you remove a few panels. You will need to run constant, ignition and a ground to the original factory radio, along with the factory green plug. If you extend the wires, you can place the factory radio under the passenger seat or in the trunk if you wish. Dome Light Bypass If you do not have the factory keyless entry, you can bypass the dome light circuit and remove the factory radio from your car. To do this, remove the factory radio from car. On the green plug cut the light green / red wire and the light green / black wire. Join these two wires together on the vehicle side, not the plug side. See if your dome light comes on...it should! Removing The Radio 1. Open the glove box, empty all the stuff out of it 2. Press the sides of the glove box in to get past the catches, pull glove box down 3. You will see 2 screws holding the center panel in, remove them 4. You will see 2 screws under the center panel, remove them 5. On the drivers side, you will see 3 screws holding up the driver side panel, remove them 6. Remove the drivers side panel 7. You will then see two more screws holding the center panel in, remove them 8. Remove the center panel and the plug on the back of the cigarette lighter 9. Looking up at the bottom of the radio, you will see two 8mm bolts (silver) remove or loosen them 10. Pull the radio out and remove all plugs Hiding Factory Radio With Factory Keyless Entry 1. Remove the armrest part of the center console (4 screws, 2 either side) 2. Remove the center console around the gear stick (4 screws, 2 either side) 3. Remove the cup holder and extra DIN pocket (4 screws) 4. Cover the radio in carpet or some other material to keep the radio from getting scratched and from rattling in the dash (very annoying!) I usually cut some carpet and duct tape it around the radio to keep it in place, otherwise you'll fight with keeping the carpet in place. 5. Install new radio using the "Honda Keyless Entry Harness" This harness package will have two harnesses inside. One will plug into the factory radio with constant, ignition, ground and the other harness will have the speaker wires along with the power wires. Note: You can extend the wires and install the radio last...this may be a better option if you need to pull the radio out for service or something else. 6. Plug the "Metra" plug into the factory radio along with the green plug. 7. The factory radio will fit between the two metal brackets to hold the dashboard up. You will need to put the radio as high in the dash as you can and tilt the bottom back into the dash as far as possible. When you are doing this keep in mind that you will need that cigarette lighter plug when you put the center panel back on! Note: You may need to move some harnesses around in the dash to get the radio in the position you need it. 8. Try and put the cup holder and DIN pocket back in....if that panel fits you should be set! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright © 2000 StreetDreams Car Audio Installation Home Top chadi 10-27-2005, 12:08 PM so does that mean that the facotry stereo can still be turned on and used? im confused... jus recently got a 97 ex...
