I just got a quote for water pump $155, thermostat $8.13 and antifreeze $12.00 plus $188 in labor. Does this sounds off the wall??? Should I bring the KY Jelly?

The major question here is "what is the shops labor rate"???

At $60/hour thats only 3 hours and close to an expected flat rate time.

Autozone lists the pump price at just under $70.

If you were to do the job yourself you could gt the parts cheaper and save the extra money but if you can't do it yourself for what ever reason then it is not out of line though if you shopped around you might save $25 or so.

Part of what you are paying for is fixing the problem if the new pump also fails....we have all been there when the new part is just as bad. If you do it yourself you have to remove the part and take it back and listen to the "I'm Sorries". If a shop does the work you can take it back and they have to deal with making it right. Some of the money you pay is to that "Insurance". The repair shop does the same work over again and you don't have to pay. Doesn't happen often but when it does you will be happy you had a shop do the work.
