Question 2004 F250 sticky wastegate valve?

Good Morning,

Our truck is fine when on level ground with no load on the engine. Once I hit a hll at either high or low speeds, the turbo cuts out for a split second. The engine still runs, no engine lights come on or any other notification of failure. Even if I'm traveling down the highway with a lot of wind resistance, the turbo will cut out. Basically, once a load gets on the truck, the turbo cuts out with loss of power and loss of mileage. Black smoke is blown out the exhaust when the turbo cuts out.
We've heard it could either be a sticky wastegate valve or an ecp(or epc)valve. We've taken it to the dealership and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. If it is a valve or sensor issue, can we fix it ourselves. Any advise, information is greatly appreciated.

You do not have a wastegate. Anyone that thinks you do (especially at a dealership) is not worthy to work on your truck.

Ford has many upgraded flashes for the PCM in your truck, most of the issues related to driveability are fixed thru updated software (reflashing).

The very first thing any tech should do is to check the software version in your PCM, if they did not, take it to another dealership where they have someone that knows about this issue.

This sounds very similar to the problem I have with my 2004 F250 SD. I experience a loss of power when I try to accelerate. The turbo doesn't seem to want to engage, and I get dark smoke out the exhaust. There is two recalls for our vehicles. One deals with the fuel injector system, and the other deals with the EGR valve. I have had the injector system recall performed. The engine worked fine for about 2 months. I have had the computer reflashed by the dealer twice now. Lately it has been acting up again. I just received the recall notice for the EGR valve. I have an appointment next week to get it done. This will be the 9th time I have had to take the truck to the dealer to get this problem fixed. I plan on filing a lemon law case on the vehicle with the next visit.

Question 2004 F250 won't start - EGR valve

Yesterday our truck would not start. It would fire but not stay running and was belching black smoke. We were told that we needed to replace the EGR valve. I found on the internet that we could clean it. We did truck ran yesterday. Tried to start this morning and doing the same thing. Where do we check now for the problem
