Fourth new engine in our RX8!!

Hi,
Anyone have any suggestions for us? We have an 2004 RX8 with less than 6K miles on it and it is back at Mazda to replace the engine for the third time! Yes, this will be the fourth engine in our car that is only 15 months old. The first two engines were replaced before the car was 7 months old. We live in Michigan where the company gets 4 tries before the Lemon law can be called into action.
We are incredibly frustrated, and we wonder if there is any other answer. We have no confidence in the car, and we really want to be rid of it. We want a refund, but do we really have to wait for another engine? It is hard to believe that anyone wouldn't consider the car a lemon already. Please write if you have any ideas. Thanks for reading this!

Re: Third new engine in our RX8!!

Yes, the car has been under warranty, but it has been out of service for over 30 days in the past year. We may call a lawyer to see if there is anything that can be done, but the Lemon Law is fairly clear with the 4 times. I think it is crazy for such a major part of the car.
They have provided rentals two of the times, but when you buy an RX-8, you shoudn't have to drive a Tempo.
It is currently in the shop, and has been gone for over a week this time.
This car is such a lemon!

Mazda RX-8 Third engine

Thanks for your interest. The car has been in for 2 weeks (counting today) waiting for the fourth new engine to be installed. It has had the same problem from the same cause three times! The antifreeze leaks into the oil, and trashes the engine. They said they are waiting another week and a half for the engine to come in, and then it will be take couple of days to install it. Other Mazdas have had engines replaced, but I think we are the only ones with a continued problem.

We are sure nobody will want to buy this car, new engine or not. It has been a real problem for us. Another pain in the neck, is that each time we get a new engine, we have to "break it in". This involves a few minutes to warm it up, and the same to warm it down. This has to take place for the first 600 miles of driving. We don't put many miles on the car, so this process can take a few months. My husband has been very careful to follow all of their "important" tips to protect the engine... for all the help it has been.

We are considering calling a lawyer. After three trashed engines, I can't imagine anyone wouldn't call this car a lemon. But the law says 4.

I find it difficult to believe that Mazda would actually replace the engine in your RX-8 3 times when it has such low mileage without offering you some other avenue, such as a new car... or?

Re: Fourth new engine in our RX8!!

hi, we have had our 8 mos old mazda in the shop for about 6 weeks now waiting for a new engine. It was originally going to cost us 4,000.00 but mazda has finally decided to drop it to 2,000.00 We are supposed to get the car back today. However if they weren't able to get that supposedly one engine available in the USA then we were told we would have to wait another 4 weeks to get the engine from japan. The car was originally towed after dying out. The car made no noises and the engine/oil lights never came on. They told us we let it run out of oil and the warranty wouldn't stand. I did a little research and saw there was a recall in australia for the oil sensor light that didn't work. if you can email me. ei1225 at aol about your situation.

Complain. Write letters. Refuse to pay car payments. Just throw a hissy fit. Someone will listen. And you might wanna think about getting that lawyer...

Re: Fourth new engine in our RX8!!

This scares me to death!! I have my American Spec RX8 in Europe where the warranty 'may or maynot' be any good. Has anyone else had this problem? So far mine seems to run fine, but doesn't use oil like I was told it would. Also, I haven't put many miles on because of the bad weather.

Rx8 Mods???

Hey, I'm really sorry to be posting this question in this forum because it's not really related to the thread's topic, but this appears to be the most recently updated thread.

I'm considering purchasing an RX-8 or a G35 Sport and need some advice. I know that the RX-8 handles better, and is more of a pleasure to drive, but my concern is with power. The G will give me 280hp, while the RX8 will require me to wrap it to 9000rpm to get 235. In addition to this my real plan is to add several bolt-on mods to increase the performance of either car, (as well as a body kit if I go with the Mazda). I want BMW M3 performance out of whichever car I purchase. Is there RX8 bolt-ons that will seriously bump up performance? Or should I just buy the M3 and be done with it? I'd really appreciate some advice.

Mike

Re: Third new engine in our RX8!!

the rx-8 has untapped potential. the only reason why it has such low power is becuase it is limited by emissions and such.

that said, with bolt ons you would get more power out of a g35. i would also reccomend you buy an m3 if you can afford it.

Re: Third new engine in our RX8!!

I recently bought a Mazda RX-8 and as I did with my FC when the engine was replaced, I babied it, but wround out the revs at least once or twice a day to slowly wear the apex seals in.

Re: Third new engine in our RX8!!

basically keep it below 4k for the first 1000 miles, then below 6k for the next 1000 and below 8k for the next 1000.

I'm sure the break-in procedure is why these engines are failing.

Oh and about the "sludge on the dipstick" thing, that stuff should go away, since thats what they use to seal the bottom part of the engine block.
