As for your questions, it all really depends on what you have already done to your car. It also depends on where you plan to eventually go with the whole thing. Give us a little insight on that and we might be able to better answer your questions. As far as being a first or second mod, the answer is no. That is an item that should be close to last on the list. I, personally don't have one, although I feel that other than a turbo, that is one of the only mods I have left to do, but I don't know if I'm sticking to a VTEC engine or not. Also, as far as price goes, it depends on which model you get, and what capabilities you want it to have.

What kinda car do you have? The prices vary on different models of the cars and the conrtols are different because each cars VTEC is different.

also there are many brands of vtec controller's from jackson racings vpac to an apexi vafc. they are not car specific but must be set differently for each motor. well let me correct myself, vtec controllers are specifically for cars with vtec but thats as far as it goes. they use map and throttle position inputs to trigger vtec at the point you wish it to engage by altering the signal's the ecu recieves. the better ones will also allow you to adjust the fuel trim. as a side note the vafc is very usefull in fuel management of turbos and superchargers. ther are quite a few tricks and hacks that are out for them so that they make fuel delivery almost seemless without the use of a standalone under low to moderate boost. once you get to the point where your power band has shifted or you need to make fuel corrections the ecu cant handle then the vtec controller becomes usefull unless like i said before if you have an h22 then it will provide gains on a stock motor. seems the h22 was blessed with an incorrect vtec engagement point from the factory.

sure but if your stock its worthless. you need something to justify your changing the transition point like a cam or p&p job or higher compression or turbo.

vtec controllers are known to give approximately 300+ horsepower... they are about equivelant to a new ECU.

So anyway....

You don't need one unless you plan on dyno-tuning your car after every mod you get, and plan on racing your car a lot... there are better things you can get for the money in your stage of the game. For basic fuel tuning, just get a FPR.

Ive got one because it was on there when I bought the car.

Its on my list of things to change, Im gonna remove it.

Its totally pointless unless you have aftermarket cams or a Prelude.

My one beeps when you hit 4000rpm and emits a constant beep while your above 6000rpm.

I havnt touched it because I have no idea how to use it.

300+HP??? on what motor? Because i want one of those motors that will give me another 300HP just for vtec controler and a dyno sesion.
