95 with tranny problems95 taurus driver 12-25-2004, 07:41 AM I have a 95 ford taurus. recently had the shop replace a rear main seal and transmission seal. When I got the vehicle back I noticed that it had a strong vibrating noise coming from the front of the car when giving it gas in reverse. The car runs great until it reached normal operation temp. Thats when the transmission stops shifting. It just wines out in 1st gear. I checked the fuild level and noticed that it was slightly over full. Do I need a new tranny or is there a computer problem that is causing this malfunction within the transmission. At first I didnt have a passing gear (prior to the seal replacements). The car runs great for about 15 mins. What is my problem? lincoln_mark_8 12-25-2004, 06:24 PM the vibrating can be from a engine or trans mount. It can be loose or the rubber broken out. If the car has aver 120 k with no tranny work or replacement I would just get a new one. These trans have a shelf life. My 97 has 112 and is dead. This is not at all uncommon. By the way I lost OD first. 95 taurus driver 01-06-2005, 09:53 AM I purchased a used transmission the other day. I was just wondering if I should check the VSS before I install the used tranny. I have been reading other posts and it sounds as if I have the same problem that the peeps with VSS problems are having. Besides, when I check my codes, I do get a VSS voltage too low reading and EGR voltage too low. 95 taurus driver 01-19-2005, 11:03 AM Ok, here's my story for all to try in the future with their transmission problems. As you can see above, I was having serious transmission problems. I spent the money getting the Vehicle Speed Sensor. Put it in myself. It really isnt hard to do. Except I had to purchase a VSS for a 96 Taurus to put in a 95. The cost of the VSS was $75 including shipping from Advanced Auto Parts. The speed sensor is located on the lower passenger side of the engine on top of the transmission. Hard to reach but worth it (you have to basically depend on feeling for it then actually seeing what you are doing) just follow the Speedometer cable to the sensor. Once it was replaced, all was done. I couldn't believe how much better the car ran. I was thinking I needed a new transmission. Took the used transmission back to the junk yard and they charged me $75 to return it. But it was all worth it than to pay $400-$700 to have it installed. I strongly suggest having the VSS checked first whenever there's a problem with the tranny. I strongly believe that it is the culprit with most tranny problems, just that the shop don't tell you. They will tell you to change the tranny and most don't even know about the VSS. Good luck to you all in your repairs of the notorious Taurus. I really don't think the car is as bad as most would say it is. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
