98 s-10 blazer transmission dip tube removal

I'm trying to remove the transmission dip stick tube on a 1998 s-10 blazer. I seem to be leaking transmission fluid at the bottom of the dip stick tube, where the seal meets the housing. Anyone have a solution as to how to get to the bolt that holds the tube to the engine at the back of the head by the firewall. I've removed the tranny bracket and lowered it as low as I could go, but doesn't help me at all. I'm about ready to drill a hole into the firewall to get to the bolt. Thanks for any advice!

I can't say for certian, and I can't even say I've looked under the hood of a 98, but if it's like my 85 blazer removing the 2 main motor mount bolts will allow the motor to drop 1-2" which might just give you that room needed.

I usually just use a drop of lock-tight to seal dip stick tubes up like that, and I've never had a problem. This trick might even work without removing the tube, but clean the area right up first, and use ether on it to get it oil free

You will need a mile of extensions and swivels (just kidding) and approach from the back of the tranny to get to the bolt. I don't envy you, it's tough enough on a lift.

I'm sure that if you get the area good and clean that lock tight will seal it up for you. For extra penetration heating up the area a little with a propane torch will probably even allow the lock tight to penetrate in a little further.

It'll only take 10 min an the most, so it's worth a try
