95 Pathfinder Auto gets stuck in 3rdPathfinderDoug 12-22-2004, 03:06 PM My 95 pathfinder get stuck in third, randomly, although usually after coming to a stop. From what I read in the manual, it seems like the "safe mode" gets tripped and the car won't shift out of third until I turn the ignition off and back on. I have tested it with the overdrive on and off, and with the tranny in both economy and power modes. It has done it when the engine and tranny are both hot and cold. Everything else works fine. What could be causing this. It is driving me nuts! I assume there are several triggers to set the computer in "safe mode". From the owner manual, one trigger is "excessive wheel spin," but that is not the case for me. Could it be bad brake sensors, oxygen sensor, or other defective sensor telling the computer that the car is not running properly? Sometimes it goes a month with no problems, and sometimes it get stuck in third at almost every stop sign. Doug rwes 12-23-2004, 10:39 AM I have the same problem with my 1995 Pathfinder. I believe I just found an answer in another forum. Search car-forums.com. for your problem. Per one response to the same problem it is a sticking solenoid in the transmisson. This fixed the problem for one person and is relatively easy and cheap to do. rwes joedptro 04-19-2005, 10:01 AM I have the same problem with my 1995 Pathfinder.
