85 Diesel Jetta wont start all of sudden in cold

Hi a quick summary of the problem. Its about 10F outside and I attempted to start the car to get it out of the way but it wasnt plugged in. Waited for the glow plugs and then turned it over and it sputtered but sounded like it disengaged the starter, tried again and maded the same sound. THe third time it just turned over and no firing from then one. So I pushed it into the garage, heated it and put the block heater on. Still it turns over fast but no fire.

Is it possible that the timing belt jumped a cog? I cant image the fuel being congeled after I heated the garage up.

Thanks for your suggestions!!
