engine changetidus8605 12-16-2004, 11:49 PM Where I live, there is a local drag strip that people are allowed to race on at night without it being illegal. There is this car there that has really been making me mad about the way he brags about his car and always wants to race for titles but he's never actually raced, he drives a Supra and claims to have turbo but i don't think he actually does cause there is no blow off valves or anything. I have this engine in my garage at home...Its a 3.0 or something like that, if i rebuilt it with high performance parts and put turbo in it and threw it into my 2002 Cavalier...would i be able to run with the supra? Classicrocjunkie 12-17-2004, 01:32 AM I think you are a noob for asking that question... 1) There is now 3.0 GM made to fit into a cavalier that i can recall... 2) For the amount of money its going to take you to drop a different engine like ford or w/e... you'd be better off buying somthing will more ballz and alot safer at higher speeds than your car... I think you need to grow up and realize you should think before you post next time and do a little more reaserch... good day! godenm 12-17-2004, 07:37 PM its a supra,it probably has a turbo. not every turbo car has a blow-off valve(like seen on f & f).you wont here that turbo untill it spools up.anyway, exactly what kind of engine is this 3.0? blitz/littledevil 12-24-2004, 02:01 PM yeh im a noob n stuff but i got a 2002 cavalier too and i was wondering pretty much the same thing .... is it possible(regardless of the money needed) to fit a 3.1L h.o. engine from a baretta or an older z24 into a 2002 cavalier? another thing too in my car the motor doesnt say ecotec on it anywheres does that mean it isnt one or just was never called that att he time my car was made because i see alot of 2002 cavaliers that have ecotec engines but mine doesnt tell me anywhere that it is one or not althought on the air intake it does say 2200 2.2L it would be a big help if someone could explain this to me blitz/littledevil 12-28-2004, 12:44 PM i have a picture of my motor but i dont know how to put them in my mesages so.. if anyone needs to see it to help with the problem just tell me how to paste the pic in the message and ill gladly do so noshun 01-03-2005, 04:34 PM You could boost your own motor and keep up with a supra. It depends on if there are any mods on the supra. A 3 litre supra motor can run up to 1000hp with the right amount of cash invested (a lot) so then you have little chance. He has the advantage of being RWD as opposed to your FWD. A turbo kit and some internal work on your motor could see you putting out about 250bhp or more depending on how much money you want to spend and how much disregard you will have for your motor in order to make this guy look stupid and there is always nitrous if you are that set to beat him. I wouldn't recommend it though because who knows what he has done to his car. You should mod for yourself. Your best bet is to go to another track!!! lexxxx 01-03-2005, 07:52 PM like i say dont use nos just ask him to look under the hood of his supra if he dosnt then ask him. if he is so fast then why he never races his shit car Classicrocjunkie 01-03-2005, 08:43 PM ^ NOS is a brand name.. like NX, ZEX,and Venom... NO2, Nitrous (Oxide), Giggle juice are other names to call it... sorry but that is one of my pet peeves.. noshun 01-04-2005, 12:11 AM ^ NOS is a brand name.. like NX, ZEX,and Venom... NO2, Nitrous (Oxide), Giggle juice are other names to call it... sorry but that is one of my pet peeves.. Not to Mention Edelbrock, Wizards of Nos (English co), Holley, Nitrous Works, Berg Works, Nitrous Oxide Systems etc etc. You may have used N2O without knowing so at the Dentist. Blame Jerry Bruckheimer and his woefully inaccurate pair of Films featuring a certain Pretty Boy Paul Walker. At least no-one calls it 'Nitro' anymore, a vastly more unstable chemical. Fun in glass bottle if you hurl them off of car parks though (don't try this at home) I'm also not telling how to make it. Although if you've seen fight club!?! -Jayson- 01-04-2005, 01:45 PM if your intake sasy 2200 2.2L, then thats the engine you have, its 115HP and not a very good engine to start moding. It takes alot of upgrades and money to mod that engine into anything resepctable. Most people just give up and buy a better engine or car. Classicrocjunkie 01-04-2005, 10:49 PM ^ very true.. but that best part is when people seeing you mod a 2.2 and after all the time and money you spend, the outcome it has. I don't expect much from mine since its my first car, and i will try to keep it as long as possible. Most i will do is probably run Nitrous for any type of boost application next summer in it.. noshun 01-05-2005, 12:05 AM ^ very true.. but that best part is when people seeing you mod a 2.2 and after all the time and money you spend, the outcome it has. I don't expect much from mine since its my first car, and i will try to keep it as long as possible. Most i will do is probably run Nitrous for any type of boost application next summer in it.. Besides the fact that there is infinitely more stuff available for the 2.2 ecotec then the 2.4. The 2.2 Ecotec is the motor that is in Turbo form in the Vauxhall Vx220 Turbo and VXR220 and the Opel Speedster Turbo (same car) This is however a re-bodied Lotus Elise and they are made on the same production line by the same workers(in England)!!!! Bitchin little sportster. The Gm product is actually better then the Lotus one if talking in terms of 'fun-to-drive'!!! blitz/littledevil 01-05-2005, 03:55 PM so u have the same motor crj? and im assuming its not an ecotec then... and what does lotus and pel and vauxhall got to do with it and im pretty sure lotus is manufactured under toyota it was in car and driver a while back .... but yeah i guess im probly gonna have to swap in a 2.4l ecotec or something or a plain old 2.4 but yeah all that was helpfull noshun 01-05-2005, 04:54 PM so u have the same motor crj? and im assuming its not an ecotec then... and what does lotus and pel and vauxhall got to do with it and im pretty sure lotus is manufactured under toyota it was in car and driver a while back .... but yeah i guess im probly gonna have to swap in a 2.4l ecotec or something or a plain old 2.4 but yeah all that was helpfull If you read the friggin post you would have seen that the VX220, a european car which is the same as a Lotus Elise has an EcoTec! That was the point it is a sports car with an Eco Tec!!!!!!! 220hp from factory! Lotus is not under Toyota. What you read was that the motot in the Federal Elise so that it could be sold in the States is the 1.8 VVTi as found in the Celica and MR2. The reason for this is that the car has to go through federalisation in order to be sold in the states. The engine has to be put through a test whereby it has to cover 100,000 miles and not have any new parts, not even belts and instead of trying to get the Rover K-series engine through this the used an Engine which had already passed it!!!!!!! That is what Lotus and Vauxhall and OPel have to do with it. Opel and Vauxhall are GM like Holden is in Ausralia. It was to show how the EcoTec motor is obviously considered a good unit. Only Elise Engines are toyota Remember!!!!!!!!!!!! blitz/littledevil 01-06-2005, 04:16 PM alright sheez hold ur water man .. anyways im not overly concerned with my motor now its winter so im into interior anyways... noshun 01-06-2005, 04:20 PM It nothing personal, it's just everyone on here is always trying to second guess me and it pisses me right off. So I can get a little snappy. Its seems like the huge e-mails I write aren't worth the bother! blitz/littledevil 01-07-2005, 06:43 AM yeah i hate that too with my circle of friends here at home i know exactly what you mean oh well its all good Classicrocjunkie 01-07-2005, 06:24 PM I have the 2200 LN4 OHV ( 99-02) and you my friend have the same unless purchased late in 02 where this is the year GM switched over to the ecotec. blitz/littledevil 01-08-2005, 10:11 AM http://www.funtigo.com/img/i11304549_21595.jpg thats it.. same? i just got the car like a month ago so theres next to nothing on it for modifications noshun 01-08-2005, 11:17 AM My sister has that motor! She's a Girl!!! Classicrocjunkie 01-08-2005, 01:20 PM ^ LOL.... you have alot of show.. but no go.. from that pic i can see its a manual transmission, a good amount of miles on it, and cruise control... here is my engine. as of now.. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/172487597844_147_full.jpg blitz/littledevil 01-08-2005, 02:57 PM not quite.. manual yes no cruise and just over 50k in kilometers (i live in canada) i need one of them intakes.thats probably the first engine mod im gonna get most likely a k&n one or rk sport noshun 01-08-2005, 02:58 PM Rock the Manual son!!! Woop woop. No Slush boxes for me. This is my car number 6 and no autos in my history!! blitz/littledevil 01-08-2005, 03:00 PM My sister has that motor! She's a Girl!!! whats that supposed to mean?? :wtf: noshun 01-08-2005, 03:05 PM whats that supposed to mean?? :wtf: It was a joke I was in a funny mood!!!!! I got a Vibrant Intake from Car Modifier.com I'm in SE Ontario it's from Ottawa. It's not cold air but it sounds great and I'm making an Aluminium heat shield/air box with feed 6" from the road the coldest point! It was 135 CDN$ all told to my door by courier! But that's 2.4 they do a few for 2.2 Classicrocjunkie 01-08-2005, 04:07 PM If you lived in the US i could get you one like mine for 100 USD.. CAI are 195 USD... Items you cannot see are prothane engine mounts upper and lower.. and i think i am going to try one of those lightend crank pullies. blitz/littledevil 01-08-2005, 07:29 PM yeah what do different engine mounts do? blitz/littledevil 01-08-2005, 07:37 PM what car does a 3800 series V6 come out of? a guy that live like 3 hours from here took a 98 cav and put one of them in and supercharged it and hes running 9's at the strip i want to do that i think it would satisfy me noshun 01-08-2005, 08:58 PM yeah what do different engine mounts do? Do you mean like urethane one? If so they stop the engine twisintg as mmuch and alow you to actually pull more power as you don't loose some as it is transferred to the mounts. They also last longer than stock rubber ones. Grand-Prix GTP has a 3800 supercharged motor. They put it in other W-body cars too. blitz/littledevil 01-10-2005, 02:47 PM yeah i need to find me one of them then.... :grinyes: noshun 01-10-2005, 09:07 PM yeah i need to find me one of them then.... :grinyes: www.rsmracing.com, based in T.O. and www.carmodifier.com in Ottawa. Custom engine mounts up fron there on that!! Some underneath too. I wouldn't want to attach them to the slam lanel without reinforcing it though! They look like stock mounts been modified. and battery re-located to trunk I would imagine! If you don't mind the spending part go-ahead. RSM could even gice you some advise on it. They are very good! noshun 01-10-2005, 09:39 PM That shop know what they are doing! That is a well documented swap right there!! Almost a how to! blitz/littledevil 01-11-2005, 03:34 PM yeah he was definatly the best car at the show in my mind i but i did like the carbon fibre bodied S2000 tho too id like so see him at the track racing that thing a 9 second cavalier thats still a street car is pretty impressive noshun 01-11-2005, 06:29 PM yeah he was definatly the best car at the show in my mind i but i did like the carbon fibre bodied S2000 tho too id like so see him at the track racing that thing a 9 second cavalier thats still a street car is pretty impressive True. I now can spank a stock ecotec with a k&N filter with really pisses my buddy off cause his car has 15,000km on it and mine has 108,000km on and i spank him so now he has started to mod it so i think next is a 60hp shot of No2 that will coincide with my computer to prevent engine damage. also goin to have GM redo my fuel mapping to coincide with performance mods. remember the 2.2 stock with 115hp and the ecotec has 140hp. good luck and don't listen to all the negativity about the 2.2 it's all bout what u want you're car to do not what others think it should do. cavyz245spd 01-30-2005, 08:00 PM there could be many reasons but for one not all supra's were turboed and his may not be. the only real way is to see for one if he has gauges or 2 under the hood because its easy to say he doesnt have one and still could you never know. but if he had a twin turbo supra and talked all that crap he would def. race so i bet he doesnt have one. but he doesnt necessarly have to have a BOV it could be internal wastegate. my cousins twin turbo RX7 sounds nothing of a turbo but they are there. you would never know he has a turbo unless you actually looked. he has a black front mount and a mad quiet (pretty much silent) BOV and everything is sleeper so if he's smart he did the same. but as far as your engine on your car theres things you can do to the cavy but it takes money you could get around 400hp out of your car but ecotec's are kind of crapy. 2.4's were the best. but no matter what man i dont think you could run it with a twin turbo supra if it is. buy another car if you wanna beat him that bad but theres not much to compete wit a Twin turbo supra those cars are so easy to get power out of. good luck and as much as i love cavy's i even know theres no chance. ill let you borrow my 2004 cobra lol maybe you could run it with him. (521.7whp baby) BOV's or dump valve are completely different to Wastegates! The wastegate on a stock car will maintain a maximum level of boost and this is what you connect a boost controller to which fools the wastegate into thinking it's running less boost! All Turbbos have Waste gates but not all have BOVs. A BOV just releases the pressure build up from when you close the throttle as there will still be compressed air in the tubing and upon reopening the throttle this will rush in with the fuel not being able to catch and it will lean out and ultimately can cause detonation and so the motor could receive some serious damage. A lot of stock Turbo cars don't have a BOV but they do have a valve that does the same job, these are called recirculating valves, some BOV recirculate but not all. It basically puts the air back into the intake before the turbo. This usually allows the intake to lessen the lag if the thottle is opened wide staight after a shift as there will be more air before the turbo to be compressed other than it just sucking it in! You can always hear a turbo but to the untrained ear it wouldn't sound like it! You are right though that a stock Supra Motor can take a lot of boost and mash most other cars! Although in the Fast and the Fuirous they got that Supra and it had a 2jz. Jesse: "2JZ engine no shit!!" This is a toyota 2.0l motor and is a very good one but you couldn't push it above 400hp unlike the stock 3.0 I-6 the supra would of had, that could push in excess of 1000hp! hopeless4life 01-30-2005, 10:49 PM That 3.8L supercharged does not run 9's, it may have come close when he had the bottles full but no it doesn't run 9's. This is a good customer of ours and he had the same swap done at double Z automotive in halifax. http://www.creativeautosports.com/gallery/gallery_lee.htm This one is faster than the first one cuz he has a few more performance mods if you exclude N2O. And in the quarter mile it doesn't even think about touchin nines. Plus both lee and james have plans to lose the supers and put on twin turbos which will be quite a bit more impressive. But nonetheless it also has its drawbacks.
