I posted this in the non-specific forum too, but figured I better post here also. Ok. I have yet another problem with my darling passat. After the posts I've made about it, everyone probably thinks I should take my cars to a mechanic, but hey, why start now..lol.

I just did a head gasket and am having problems getting it to run. It starts on the cold start valve, but dies when it needs the regular injection to kick in. I know it has to be a wiring problem or something, but I just don't know. I've been over it 53 times, and can't seem to locate any probs. When you first start it, (like when it sat overnight), it runs for maybe 15 seconds. After that, it dies. I don't think it's timing, though it may be off a little, because it starts and sounds good. It runs off of a bottle of gas being shot into the intake so I'm almost sure its a fuel delivery prob. I have preasure at the line at the distribution block. I don't know exactly which solenoids, switches, etc keep the injection from working, but any input would help as I am ready to push this car off a cliff. If you need any more info on the problem, by all meens, PLEASE ask. Thanks again.

I would suggest checking your timing once more. I replaced a head gasket on a dual overhead cam neon and it would run for a couple seconds before stalling out, I was sure I had timed the cams correctly. I tore into the timing cover four times over before I finally got the timing correct. The procedures I was following turned out to be incorrect and a new technical service bulletin was posted with the proper updated procedures. I think what happened primarily was when I installed the tensioner it would roll one cam half a tooth forward as the slack was taken out before it was out completly. Try rolling the cam that is just before the tensioner back half a tooth before applying tension to the belt through the tensioner. That half tooth of difference was all it took for that neon. With the updated procedures I was able to get it right the first time.

i had the exact same prob with mine i did a full tune up and ended up driving it to the garage with too feet and one hand on the shifter. turns out there are 2 fuel pumps and one of them didn't work so whel it came off fast idle it stalled. so cheek your fuel pums might just be the the prob your looking for

Figured I better finish this thread off. It turns out, It was SOOOOOO simple. The computer needed reset. That was it. Disconnect the battery after EVERY big engine job so it can. My car is running pretty great now other than a few little items. I was so ready to scrap it when I first posted this a littel over a year ago. Oh well. Live and learn. Thank for all of your suggestions.
