2000 kia sportage 55,000 miles only starts when it wants to it turns over all the time but start when it wants. if you switchrelays it improves your chances but not all the time the iac click when you get the right combination then it starts. dumbfounded. please help

"It's possible that you have a dirty IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. You can clean it with spray carb cleaner. The older style IAC on your 1996 has caused problems. It was discussed at length in this thread:

2000 kia sportage 55,000 miles only starts when it wants to it turns over all the time but start when it wants. if you switchrelays it improves your chances but not all the time the iac click when you get the right combination then it starts. dumbfounded. please help I solved the problem the answer is the fuel pump relay and egr are relay were not that great upon changing them with only genuine KIA relays will it start. The Kia relay also has a circuit for the O2 heater sensor generics do not. this problem will cause intermittent starting and also will eventually lead to total failure which it will turn over but never start cause the relays control the coil . I found this out at the kia service shop the replaced one of the relays with a generic aftermarket relay the O2 sensor tripped the service engine soon light.
