Fan replacement

The cooling fan is screwed in this 2001 Cavalier 2.2 auto. How do you go about removing the fan motor? The starter is in the way at the bottom of the shroud so you can't slide the assembly off through the bottom, and everything is spot-welded shut at the top. There has to be an easier way, right? Do we have to cut the rad supports off or take the starter off or what? There must be a better way...
