got more power from air filter

hey guys, when i bought my civic, it came with a k & n short ram filter, it was dirty so i decided to buy the k & n cleaning products. i had the car for more than 10 months now and i decided to do it. i cleaned it and now, at around 4-5000+ revs i have more power, i can feel the vtec kick in much more than before, my car is auto but still i am very happy.

i would like to know, if any of u guys have any pics of home made heat shields. and measurements and stuff like that and is it worth getting some tubes to direct more fresh air into the area of the filter.

thanks

Re: got more power from air filter

not worth using more tubes. It's really hard to get a ram air effect on civics. As for a heat shield that is a great idea. No measurements from me, but good thinking there.

I have a ram air and i used my stock intake tube, ran it down where the resonator used to be, and cut a hole for it in that plastic on the bottom. The bent part is sticking out about a inch and a half so i figure at higher speeds air can be "directed" to my filter, but since there no suction in that tube, i dont have to worry about water. Its kinda ghetto, and i dont know if it really makes a difference, but you cant see it from out side unless your under the car, and i like to think i have the best of both(cold/ram)worlds...

Re: got more power from air filter

thanks. here where i live in australia, my civic looks so much better than other civics, cause of the color. and my car is not lowered, when u look at it real life, it looks lowered. my friends ask always if my car is lowered. but anyway, can u help me with the position where the filter should be located. cause when i see other peoples short ram filter on honda's, they use the stock tube but they dont have a extended tube. is there any diference. cause i would rather have more power at low to mid revs.

thanks again

Re: got more power from air filter

there is not difference between just using the stock piping and that extended piping. Placement of the filter doesn't affect where the power comes in at either.

Re: got more power from air filter

not a big difference in power, only like 13 hp, but should be a good difference in torque. Around 30 lb/ft. You'll definetetly be able to feel the extra torque on uphills.
