Ugh, another CEL problem...

OK, 93 Civic EX throws CEL code 22 (VTEC pressure switch) at high RPMs after VTEC kicks in. Causes/solutions?

Re: Ugh, another CEL problem...

sounds like not enough oil pressure. Check your sending unit on the back of your block.

Re: Ugh, another CEL problem...

it could be clogged, or one thing I have read about is that a gasket in it coming loose and leaking. I think that was for a Jeep or something like that, but samething could happen.

Not too familiar with exactly what goes wrong with these things, just that a lot of vehicles with oil pressure problems, replacing the sending unit cures it.

Re: Ugh, another CEL problem...

hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge from your local auto shop to the oil pressure test port on the seloniod. warm engine to operating temp.hold the engine at 1000, 3000, 5000 rpms for a minute. your readings should be 7 psi or less on all speeds.

or take it to a honda experienced tech to diagnose for you.

or do it your self

Ok so if that psi isnt in that range that the sending unit is clogged/bad?
