exhaust system, custom if you can, it will give you a nice tone and i just think that starting from the back up to the front is better,

Re: First Mod..Header or exhaust system?

If you want to take advantage of the air flow I'd recommend saving for longer and getting both at the same time.

EDIT: oops ment to spell "saving" instead of "saying"

there is almost no point in doing one w/o the other. the cat-back would be better on it's own than a header, but i still have to agree w/ both of 'em

I went through this development cycle with my old MR2, and here's what I found.

Intake, slight improvement in throttle response, not really HP. Sounds great.

Exhaust, sound improvement.

Gutted cat - loss in low end, but increase in mid and high end HP.

Port/polish head + high lift cams - lots of power increase, all RPM's, but believed to be heavily influenced by previous mods.

Its all about opening up the airflow, and there exisits a STRONG relationship between intake and exhaust flow - without head restrictions

If I had to pick one as being predominant, I would say head work/cams.

But remember, what you gain in power, you usually loose in "street-ability" - funky, unpredicatable behavior,

u should do both, and it would help to get an air intake too.

Re: First Mod..Header or exhaust system?

i'd also say both at once. but if your in a rush to get that first mod in (which no one would blame you for) start with exhaust
