1999 GMC Jimmy, No Startyawn1980 12-07-2004, 06:52 PM Hey, I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy. One day I was driving it and the truck just cut off in the middle of the street. I tryed to start it again and no start. I had the fuel pump checked and it is fine. Do you think it is a problem with the ECM Powertrain module? BlazerLT 12-09-2004, 03:03 AM Check the fuel pump again. tony2178 12-10-2004, 10:41 AM I have the same problem. It just quit. A guy at work thought it might be my Pick Up Coil.....I hear the fuel pump working, but we checked and there is no spark coming from the Distributor. Any Ideas out there. 1999...4.3 Jimmy Thanks BlazerLT 12-10-2004, 07:16 PM Check to see if there is spark coming from the coil itself. Grizzlee 12-19-2004, 12:27 AM Hey there: I just recently have been having a bad/hard start that might have lead to no spark, my mechanic is part of a mechanics online group and someone had a similar problem. My mechanic replaceed my crankshaft sensor. This seems to have fixed the problem (I hope!) Not sure how to check the sensor, but it signals the ecm to send spark for timing, injection, etc... Hope that helps? Don BlazerLT 12-19-2004, 10:14 AM Could be just a bad coil. I would test the easy stuff first before going on to the fine stuff like that. skiptheone 02-10-2005, 04:07 PM mine stopped as well...i know the fuel pump is good...have 40-50 psi......funny...i put gas in the thing the air intake is on top of engine and it will start then stop.....seems the injecters are not firing or there is no signal to tell them to fire....and like i stated i have plenty of fuel pressue....even took the filter off and rolled over the engine...then put a pussure gauge on the fuel system just before the line goes into the manifold.....plenty of pressure....could the PCM just go like that....or what....thanks i am lost now, skip BlazerLT 02-10-2005, 04:22 PM mine stopped as well...i know the fuel pump is good...have 40-50 psi......funny...i put gas in the thing the air intake is on top of engine and it will start then stop.....seems the injecters are not firing or there is no signal to tell them to fire....and like i stated i have plenty of fuel pressue....even took the filter off and rolled over the engine...then put a pussure gauge on the fuel system just before the line goes into the manifold.....plenty of pressure....could the PCM just go like that....or what....thanks i am lost now, skip Since when is 40-50 psi good? It is supposed to be 61-66psi for your engine. blazee 02-10-2005, 06:50 PM mine stopped as well...i know the fuel pump is good...have 40-50 psi......funny...i put gas in the thing the air intake is on top of engine and it will start then stop.....seems the injecters are not firing or there is no signal to tell them to fire....and like i stated i have plenty of fuel pressue....even took the filter off and rolled over the engine...then put a pussure gauge on the fuel system just before the line goes into the manifold.....plenty of pressure....could the PCM just go like that....or what....thanks i am lost now, skip That's your problem. Your fuel pressure is way too low skiptheone 02-10-2005, 08:24 PM 40-50 may not be good...but seems it still should try to start at least and miss and idle....may be not....can someone explain further in detail why 10-15 psi less would make it not run at all.it is a CSEFI unit...the shop manual from GM states approximately 55-61 psi then pressure should decrease by 3-10 when running. thanks, skip BlazerLT 02-10-2005, 09:01 PM That is the rated fuel pressure to pop open the poppets at the end of each injector. It requires 61+psi to do that. skiptheone 02-11-2005, 11:59 AM thanks you very much for the fast response...that is cool...it makes sence...i think i need to check somewhere in the line for a pin hole....i checked the pessure again and watched and after a period of time in leaked off....i may be on the right track...I HOPE LOL.one more if you do not mind?if there is no leak could the fuel pressure regulator on the meter body be bad and cause this....i still have not ruled out pulse current to the injectors them self....thanks again you have been a great deal of help....its hard this is my first GM i have had Mopors my whole life...and this is a great truck first trouble....thanks again, skip BlazerLT 02-11-2005, 03:29 PM Fuel pressure regulator.
