Hey guys,
Never been in this part of the forums before but I'm probably buying a 95 Neon Highline this weekend. I've been researching the car a bit online and it seems to have a lot of negative reviews and mechanical problems. Now the reviews don't bug me much but I'm just afraid the mechanical problems will overwhelm me. I'm moving to SouthernCA at the end of march, starting school soon and i need something reliable. I don't want to be driving down the LA freeway scared out of my mind by traffic and then have something go out in the car to make it worse.

The 95's had their share of problems, most of them being electrical. When the Neon came out for the 95 model year it was a whole new car and the first run of any new car line has bugs to be worked out. Most of the bugs were worked out by the 97 models except for the head gaskets which was a common problem with Neons and Chysler was warrantying them left and right. A Neon that old most likely will not qualify for anymore warranty work, especially since it is used. In my personal opinion if you really like the Neon go for a 97 or newer model if you can afford it.

However, on the upshot...

The 95's were the fastest and lightest Neon's of any year including up to today's 2002 models. They have the hottest cams too, now being sold as the Mopar Performance Cam...after the 95's all cams were retarded to reduce idle roughness.

I've owned mine for 2 years and really have never had to drop much into it in the way of repairs. Of course, I take excellent care of my car....regular oil changes, air filter changes, fluid checks, engine washed, etc...

That right there is the key, and that goes for any car out there.
