Re: 96 sunfire Engine swap??

2.3L ho from a Beretta GTZ or a grand am GT more power and a better engine IMO. This is for a basic custom install, you also need a tranny from a GT model sunfire, as well as the wiring harness. remember this golden rule "with money, anything is possible" also remember this one "speed costs, how fast do you want to go?".
if your looking to just get a better motor in place of the 2.2L (reliable, fuel effecient, blah blah) then it wont happen easily, as the 2.2L is a good stout motor if taken care of.

Re: 96 sunfire Engine swap??

I have seen a swap done with a 3800 grand prix GTP and also a 3800 turbo swap... This is the biggest that can fit and the hardest... but the outcome is amazing!

Re: 96 sunfire Engine swap??

fist off, g.m never made a 2.3l, its 2.4, anywho, a 2.4 will pop in, but 2.4 come with head problems, plus you'll need an entire wire harness, and a different computer

^^^ I beg to differ with you there buddy. The intake manifolds off of a 2.3 HO engine are used onthe 2.4 on boosted and non boosted Z's. While they are a hard car to find boost parts for due to it being only put in a cavy for 1 yr (95) they have a little more HP that the 2.4, I know a handful of people who have these engine boosted.

the 2.3 h.o. motor was one of the most powerful of the "quad four". some with 180-185 hp from factory.although there sometimes hard to find, they are out there and i have found that the parts cost to rebuild one of these engines is cheaper than the 2.4...they were also a pretty dependable engine and if built right and turbo charged you could pull 250-300hp out of a 2.3 h.o... thats what im doing anyway i found one from a 94 grand am gt and am (slowly) building it now for my 98 z24

OHV usually provide better torque and has less chance of catastropic failure by way of broken cambelt
