Just wondering about the Infiniti Vehicle Immobilizer system...

First off, I'm not sure if it came on the 99 G20's or if it started in 2000 but anyway... if you dont know what i'm talking about here's the description... I know for sure all 2000+ Infiniti's have this but i'm not sure about earlier models...

Infiniti Vehicle Immobilizer System
-------------------------------------------
The Infiniti Vehicle Immobilizer System is a sophisticated theft deterrent system that immobilizes the G20 if someone tries to start the vehicle without the authorized Infiniti ignition key. Separate from the G20's standard vehicle security system, the Immobilzer uses a computer microchip transponder mounted in the key, which sends its ID code to the unit's engine control unit (ECU). Once the proper code is verified, the ECU sends another code to the car's engine control module (ECM). If the ECM verifies the code, the engine starts. If not, the engine will start momentarily and then die.

The microchip has one of 65,000 unique "fingerprints" and the key stem can be cut into 23,000 different combinations. Each time the engine is turned off, the ECM generates a new code that will be used for the next start.

OK on to my question...

the part that reads something to the effect of.. if the engine code is NOT verified, the engine will start momentarily and then die.

i'm wondering about the security of a manual transmission car. as most people know, any security "kill features" can usually be bypassed by theives if they "push start" a manual transmission car. now i'm wondering for a manual G20 that has the immobilizer, lets say you push start it, will the ECM notice it did not get a code from the ECU and then shut the engine down?? or will all of this be outta the picture already since the ignition is being bypassed to start the engine???

I've installed a buncha remote starts in cars with the imobilzers, however never any nissan/infiniti's, mostly newer fords and mitsu's. My experience - its a bitch to put a remote start in it - thats why I'm not sure if I'm doing it in mine yet. Can a manual be push started without the chip near the antenna ring? I don't think so. The last new eclipse I did had this and I was having trouble getting the antenna ring placed right, when I put the key in the ignition and remote started it, it would run, when I pulled the key out it died.....
soooo to answer the orginal question I'm 80% sure that it will die... I 'll know soon because as soon as they release the new MS2007 (Ungo) I'll PROBABLY be putting one in my car... I just threw a 2005 in my sister's boyfriends explorer tonight...... ford door locks suck ass.... lol

yeah.. i was talking to a friend of mine today and he told me that some cars that have these types of keys.. they need to keep a spare key in the steering column so that remote starts can work. i guess having the key near the ignition gets it to read the signal?

seems a little risky though like...

hmm look at that G20.. too bad i cant steal it cause of the elite infiniti vehicle immobilizer... hmm i coulda sworn i've seen the owner remote start it all the time.. he must have a key taped to his ignition... *stolen*

heh :p

Any time I did an imbolizer system - I grinded or cut the metal part off the key, all you need is the chip in the end (black part of the key) it goes in a special box like you said and it connects to the column using antenna wires and is only activated when the remote start is used...

Guyz, the '99 G20 has nothing on the ignition to disable anything. You do have the SECU (Smart Entrance Contol Unit) that you will have to deal with but is real easy. I wish all the cars were as easy as this. If you plan not to do it yourself, take it to a good shop from people who refer yuo to. They should have your car done in about 90min..

As far as cars that have the imobilizers, the deal about cutting parts of keys off and sticking them in the car somewhere is not a good idea. You should have it set up with a relay so the car can not read 2 codes at the same time. If it does, you have the potential of a no-start condition. People do not think kindly of that :banghead:

You should look into the new DEI stuff. It really kicks but. It even has controls to turn on the rear defrost, radio, or what ever you want it to do. The new 4 button remote is smaller than the old 2-button and can go 2x's the distance. I thought you say you install alot of remotes, doorlocks are very easy on the Exploder. Yes, some are 2 wire and some are 5-wire but nothing like the '04 Pacifica were you need to talk the computer's lingo. :loser:
