Hi All;

My 02 SiR has developed a vibration in the steering wheel and sometimes in the rest of the car that has been progressively getting worse. I balanced the wheels twice and even switched them for my winter wheels/tires (also just balanced) and the vibration remains. I took it to Honda and they dismissed it as simply road vibration and that it was normal but I am not convinced because it's too bad to be "normal". Has anyone else experienced this vibration in their 02/03 Civic? Does anyone have any advise as to what step I should take next? I'm running out of options.

Thanks for your help.

Jer

Is your car lowered do you have an exhaust?
Is this only at or above a certain speed?

It's stock suspension and exhaust.

Speeds are 80+ km/h but it's the worst passed 120 km/h.

If it were aftermarket rimz I would say try a hub centering ring. If you had them balanced many times maybe its the shop, have your car aligned at a different shop. The shop ur going to there devices may be off by .25 or so. Have you hit anything recently that might have caused this like a good pot hole or train track. You could have bent an axel slightly or a rim. Another thing to check is your tie inflation as well, but that should be a given.

I've had two different sets of wheels balanced at two different locations with the same results. The one set is brand new and I haven't hit anything with them. I'm beginning to think it's not the wheels. Is there any possibility it could be a drivetrain component like one of the drive axles or the transaxle?

Ah yea its a possibility but thats what Honda is for and, should have checked for those possibilities. Also for your own test swap the front tires to the back etc. This has worked on many occations in situations like this.
