Is there an easy way to estimate the cost of various auto repairs? I would like to have such knowledge before talking to mechanics.

Auto repairs are done "by the book". The mechanics have a book which says how long a job should take, and they're paid according to what the book says, no matter how long the job takes. (This excludes custom work). You may be able to get hold of a copy of the repair manual, but unless you know a mechanic it may be tough to find. Generally you can ask just about any mechanic how much they charge per hour for labor, and how much a job would be. They'll usually give you the hours that they estimate for a job.

Thanks for the response. I will thinking more of something on the internet. A couple of years ago I came across an internet site that would give you an estimate. Unfortunately, I have loss that site address. Or maybe they just went off the web.
