GTI, 2001, with turbo

my kid just bought a 2001, VW GTI...used, 63Kmiles...the previous owner kept it in good shape....it appears to have some aftermarket stuff installed (calipers, rotors, etc)....
anyway...my kid picks the car up, drives it for two days and then, after the car heats up, there is this "rattling/clikitty sound" when he shifts gears or acceleerates????......again, it appears to do it only after the car is warmed up (we took it for a ride yesteday, cold, and it seemed fine until it got warm)....
this car has a turbo in it (not sure if it is stock or aftermarket)..it has some air contorlled system to keep the rpms up during shifting , etc.....
personnally, the "whoosh" sound would drive me crazy.....

any body else have such a problem or can point us in the direction of the cause?....just don't want to be snookered by some sleazy mechanic or wahtever.....
maybe seals or vacuum line hoses leaking?....
sorry if this is all the info I can provide as I am not an expert on this car...

one more thing....timing belt.....should be replaced every 60K miles?...what about other maintenance "have too's" for this car (besides usual oil/tranny/etc)....

thanks alot......

timing belt usually gives out every 80,000 miles (warranty wont buy you a new one if you go 80,001 with it)
as the for clicking sound... m... transmission fluid? a stripped gear? i dunno...

Does your son/daughter(you weren't specific) have a VR6, 1.8T,2.0 8v, or TDI?
I drive a VR6 and they have a well known tapping sound in the engine after they warm up. It might sound annoying but it's ok.

If you want goto www.vwvortex.com and find out which model GTI you have and get registered on there. Go to the technical part of the Forums and find the right engine you have and go to that forum. Post your question and 9 times out 10 more than one person will answer your question. However be specific vortexer's can be a bit high strung sometimes I think it's just a dub thing myself.
