passenger windows dont move?!

This is a '97 Sportage 2wd. 4dr. with power windows. One day, both passenger windows just stopped working. The drivers windows work fine (front and back). Is there something common to check? I checked the fuses. I was thinking that maybe the window-lock on the drivers door could be stuck but the rear drivers window still works. Also, if that were the problem, the drivers control would still work the passenger windows. Is there a connection somewhere that I should be checking? Maybe under the drivers window control panel? How do I get that switch panel out of the door? The service guy at the dealer said that the passenger side regulators could have failed. But both at the same moment?
Its causing some stress and its the only real problem with the vehicle. Sure would be nice to solve. Thanks.
ps. this is my first post here.
Thanks for any advice or solution.

Had/have same problem on my 97 sportrage.
All electrical for all windows goes through the drivers window switches.\
on my sportage the switches had over heated and the contacts burnt.
took the switch apart and filed them with emry cloth. I have done this 5 or 6 time since it was new the dealer said it was from dust in the window tracks overloading the switches

Hope this helps

Re: passenger windows dont move?!

open the door.
key in on position
hold the window down button
beat the inner door panel until the window rolls down.

sportages have done this forever. this is what i do every time one comes in the shop whether it be out of warranty and teh customer wants it to work, granted temporarily, or if i need the window down so i can replace the regulateor or if the window is stuck down and needs to go up if parts have to be ordered.

Re: passenger windows dont move?!

I had the same problem with my wifes Kia Sportage, turned out the drivers side switch was bad.....i removed the screws from the door and popped off the panel (carefull there is a screw going through armrest I believe) went to the junk yard...found a model that looked close and replaced, worked fine ever since...
