Cool 88' Honda CRX w/ZC Emissions?

CRX ZC Swapers please help! I did a 88' CRX HF to ZC Swap. Everything runs good except for the " Check Engine Light". I live in California and in order for it to pass smog that light has to go off. The original engine had an EGR valve on the engine for emissions but the ZC does'nt. I have two emission lines connected to nothing. By the way I used the ZC ECU as well. Someone mentioned that maybe an Si ECU will help but I don't see the sense in changing the ECU to an Si. Any answers, anybody?

Thanks in advance,

HodRodCRX

Do the inspection refs just check for a light or do they check for why the lights on? Got any codes? Check for codes first. If it runs great and you think it'll pass, just yank the bulb... GL

They instantly fail you if they see the check engine light. Thats Cali for you.

Yea! My buddy checked the ECU and found out that it was shooting out automatic trani codes. He also yanked the wire for the EGR valve. He said I should get a PM7 5 speed manual ECU. I have been researching and found out that a PG7 is better, has a different fuel curve.

pg7 will kill your motor if you take it to the 7500 red line, try not to ever go over 7200 unless you are rushing someone to the hospital.

slap the shop truck on the dyno and run it as my car hehe

as for ECU's i'm running a 90 Si ecu which has better fuel maps apparently... gonna try running it with a PR4 tho and see what happens

HotRodCRX the only way you are going to get that motor to pass is use a pm6 out of a Si reason is the pr4 and the pg7 are going to dump to much fuel. You will then get a rick condition cause you to fail. So do yourself a favor and just get a Pm6 pass and be done with the worry. Any other options will cause headaches. I have been down this road.

Re: 88' Honda CRX w/ZC Emissions?

NOW I'm confused

My understanding about the ZC is that it was never offered in the US (or maybe it was just never in CA). But that in order to pass the inspection the engine had to have been offered as OEM in the US.

Onimacus, are you sure that car passed with the ZC in it?

Re: 88' Honda CRX w/ZC Emissions?

im not sure but i think they just recently changed the rules so the jdm version must pass as if it were its closest oem counterpart. they changed it cause they were having problems with b16's or something. this is really sketchy info though search for the post its in here

if you want it to pass emissions, run some eathanol in it, the emissions are much lower with it, just advance the timing and push more fuel, as for codes, find out witch ones they are and repair/replace necessary sensors

actually you want less fuel.
a car that runs rich fails. i know from experiance. and my buddy just took an emissions course to become certifide. they told him. if your running lean you have a better chance to pass.
