96 Shift position indicator light out

Anyone know how to fix ? Is there a bulb and any tips on taking the console apart?

Re: 96 Shift position indicator light out

Yes it is supposed to light up. You need to take your console apart. There are two screws way down inside the console when you open it up. There are two more by the rear seat blower and I think two at the top towards the front of the console. Take that out. Then take out the screws by the cigerette ash tray. Pull out the paper clip type fastener in the front of the shifter. Pull up on the shifter. (Be extremely careful not to rip the wires in half inside the shifter. I did and had to repair them. They rip easy and the shifter comes off hard but then quick.) Then the center console should lift right up with a little wiggling. I bet one of the wires are broken to the light. That's what was wrong with mine.
