How many X5 owners have the 3.0 straight six engine? Anyone have the 4.6is?

I have the X5 with a straight 6, why?

Chris

Its a heck of a lot cheaper than the 8. Is that why you bought it??

ushir
09-26-2001, 01:24 AM
Well, not really..my major reason for getting the 6 was because anything ordered was running about 3-4 months, and I couldn't wait that long, and I got mine off of a cancellation of someone else..

but im very happy with the 6..

That makes sense.
Personally, I would have gotten a 540 wagon or an Audi, but its your choice.

my mom has the 4.4
not like she needs the 8, but that's what she has :D

i'd rather get the Audi All-Road than the A6 wagon..... the all-road is basically a beefed up wagon, it also has air suspension, so you can lower and higher the car

i would recommend to people who buy SUV's for going on a snady beach or over a very rough cottage trail which is more like a foot path. You dont need 33 inch tires and 10 inches of ground clearance for that. For serious off-roaders, they buy old trucks and bolt on 44 inch boggers, lockers, lift kits. People who tow buy trucks or Yukons. So I'm fundamentally oposed to the X5, but it is the best SUV out there for people who buy them but dont need them. Too bad its so heavy.

Actually, I'd have to disagree. My main reasons for buying one for the extra space (more than a car), yet the performance close to that of car. The X5 has been perfect for me because its not a truck, and doesnt behave like a truck, yet I can haul my furniture, and most importantly, my dog in the back.

If I bought a 540, I would never let my dog sit in the back seat since she would scratch the leather seats. I could put her in a cage on the seat, but I don't cage her, and that seems pointless to me.

With my X5, she can roam around the cargo area, and sit, sleep, look out the window, whatever without harming the cars interior. Yet at the same time, I can drive 110mph from boston to ny.

Also, I used my X5 recently for moving my stuff from one city to another, and granted it was done over multiple trips since I wasn't moving all at once, it really came in handy that I was able to put 8 rubbermaid bins, 27" tv, my bike, small bookcases, tv stands, etc (not all at once) in the back with the seats down.

So for me, the X5 has been the best of both worlds. And yes, my dog is worth it for me to spend the $$$ for an X5 (incase you were thinking that :)..

we weren't talkin about a 540 sedan.... we were talkin about the 540 wagon

I wouldnt want to buy a huge american wagon with fake wood on the sides, but a Europeon wagon would be great. In Europe, wagons are very popular because they are very handy (The 540 has almost as much room as the X5), and they behave like cars. And I have already said things comparing the X5 to the 540, so I wont do it again.

At least you didnt buy an Excursion:)

the only thing about buyin a wagon, like a 540 wagon, or Audi A6 wagon, or Volvo V70... is that you won't be able to pick up girls at all, cause it'll look like you're married. Like what single people have you seen drivin a wagon?! it's nice, if you're married.... with a family

ushir

LOL!!!

So True.. and c'mon guys...cars like these are worth picking up girls in...
:D

If you have a family, then a wagon is better. If you dont have a family, then you dont need a SUV or a wagon.

if he doesn't have a family but needs the room than what is there to get?!? AN SUV!!
honestly what else? Wagon and mini-van is too familyish for a single guy. Like he said he needs space in the back for his dog, so that he doesn't scratch the leather, and has room

it makes sense, i think ushir made a good decision

Chris

I think a 5 series wagon is pretty far removed from the sterile family man. Its a BMW, which has a lot of cred. I know some chicks like SUV's more, but thats cuz' they're stupid, IMO. Especially if you live in the city, then an SUV is bad.

Yes, the X5 is the most car-like SUV, but why not just get a car??

ushir
10-11-2001, 01:23 PM
well..then i guess i like stupid girls... :D

and, and a car doesn't fulfill my needs as i stated earlier..

and i've had no problems in both boston and nyc with the x5.. what is your basis for being bad..except for not as good mpg... i usually park in garages since i dont trust is being on street and not getting scratched, so thats not an issue either..

how many times have we said HE NEEDS THE ROOM! :)

have you seen a 540 wagon? whenever i see one i expect some guy with like 10 kids drivin it, or some old bag
I think it looks soo bad, compared to the sedan or an X5

face it just because you hate SUVs... this wasn't a bad decision
now if he got a suburban or excursion, that's another story :D

Chris

Everyone likes stupid girls, cuz' most of them are stupid when it comes to mechanical devices (whats a camshaft??? Whats a valve?? Whats your name???)
I know you can get by quite easily with an X5. It is the best SUV. It is better than alot of cars. An Excursion really sucks:)

I'm just saying that many people give in to the fashion, when it may not be the best choice.

And even gang$tar drives a car instead of the X5. I will have to make due with a pink Taurus and a 7 year old Crown Vic.:(

that's just because i don't need the room.... but when i go on little road trips, like snowboarding with my friends, than i take the X5 cause there's way more room for my friends and snowboards

Chris

Yes, in that way an SUV or wagon is much better.

And no matter what, my opinion on SUV's will never change. But my opinion doesnt mean a whole lot to ushir when he signs on the dotted line, after all its his money and life:)

Besides, life would be so boring if everyone did the right thing and did whatever I wanted:D

It starts slowly.... you buy a "sport wagon".... then a "station wagon".... and before you know it, you're driving a minivan with a Baby On Board sticker in the back window.

I'll keep my X5, thanks. :D

Chris

Are you saying the Audi RS4 or RS2 is a kiddie-mobile???

gang$tarr
10-29-2001, 07:57 PM
The RS4 is probably the fastest production wagon in the world... 0-60mph in less than 5 seconds, in a wagon! lol :D

XZLR8
10-29-2001, 08:08 PM
Just think.... going that fast, it'd be difficult to read the "Baby On Board" sign in the back window. :D

gang$tarr
10-29-2001, 08:17 PM
lol... i still wouldn't get a wagon unless i was married, too familyish

how much does an RS4 cost, i'm sure it's gotta be around the price of an M3...... so i'll take my E46 M3 instead, thanks :)

 I don't think it's that much...... maybe that's why they're so rare, i've never seen one on the road :D

atleast i don't think i have

IT would be a neat trick if you did see one on the road, especially considering that they are only available in Europe!!!:p

Hey I agree with the Stupid SUV stuff but when it came time to find a truck to take my BMW race Car to the track i wanted it to a BMW and the X5 was it. All so Since it has the sport package and it can pull the car with out getting another car/truck it fit the need and killed two birds with one stone. THIS IS THE ONLY SAV(SUV) TO BUY.

And the thing handles just as good as a 5's sedan.
Allso i have driven every new BMW due to my Job at the MY LOCAL BMW dealership. AND for the GUY WITH the Faded trim take it to the dealership and bitch adn have it replaced under warrenty. We have people do that all the time.
Need any ANSWERS i am Person.

Well, then, you need an SUV. So getting one is obviously a good choice (although I've heard some horrible things about the ride on rough road with the sport package.) But when a single woman buys a jumbo-v to drive 40 km through the city everyday, that irks me.

Have just been reading through the three pages of replys to this post and was wondering if anybody had actually considered replying to the original question asked?

Just a thought!
