I have a 2002 Camry, puchased new, and since the very beginning the transmission clunks or slams into drive when the engine is cold. Goes into reverse very smoothly but very hard into drive.

Now it has 86K miles on it and I'm beginning to worry about what damage this has been doing to the transmission over the last 3 years.

Initially the dealer told me it needed a new computer but changed there mind a few days later when I called to see if it had come in. Then they told me it was normal.

Anybody else have this problem?

I've heard quite a bit of this problem actually, but unfortunately, I've heard nothing of a cause or cure. My best advice would be to take it to a transmission shop and have them visually inspect it for damage.
