Unhappy Damp back seat

I got a Dodge Neon 95 SOHC acouple of months back. I runs great. The back seat had a "stain" on the passenger side which was not a big problem. When it got colder the trunk got damp and the stain on the seat turned out to be because of moisture. Didn't rain lately. I read a few threads about damp trunks and I think I will go with the silicone around the tail lights. Did anyone had similar problem with back seats? Any possible solution for that?

thanks

I think I will try changing the lining and use silicone to seal the tail light.

I will let you know what will happen.

thanks for your time

I just had the same problem here, and it turns out the seal for my driver's side rear light was not attached to the body. I bought some sealant for it and reattached it. Hopefully that will keep the water from pooling up in the spare tire well.

Re: Damp back seat

As mentioned above, alot of times the taillight gaskets will crumble or begin to let moisture thru. This generally results in water being collected in the spare tire compartment, since its the lowest sitting area in the trunk. As the car is driven and thru daily stop & go driving, the water normally sloshes out of the spare tire compartment and into the rear seat floors.

Check your spare tire compartment for dampness / water and either replace the taillight gaskets or do the RTV silicone trick.

Best of luck... L8R,

Thumbs up Update

Thank you guys for all the suggestions. The tail light gasket was leaking and water was pooling in the spare tire well and spilling over the back seat. I stripped the trunk and dried everything. Then I got some silicone sealant, applied a small bead all over the gasket and that solved my problem. It rained heavily last week and didn’t get a single drop in my trunk, it was awesome.

My girlfriend recently had a leak, which was coming from the trunk. I told her to go to the quarter car wash, as I sat inside the trunk. You may see where the water or moisture is coming froim. a good way to save money instead of going to a repair shop
