a thicker headgasket will lower compression, allowing you to boost more safer. lower compression pistons would be a better choice. as for block gaurds, the subject is up in the air. some people say they are bad because they prevent coolant from circulating, others will swear by them. another choice is having your block sleeved. more money though.
