I have a few spots at the top of a door where the clear coat is peeling.
I had some bodywork done a few years ago, in this spot, and I guess they didn't do it so well. I'd like to touch it up, without spending much money. The colour paint underneath looks fine.
Here's my game plan.

Mask off the area a little below the repair. Wet sand with 1000 grit?, try to feather it into the still good clear, then use rubbing compound buff till the colour is shiny. Clean, clean, clean. Dry, dry, spray with clear coat.

Does that sound reasonable? I've never done any finishing work before.

i wouldnt use cutting compound then buff as when you spray clear coat it wont bond it will just craze and run do everything like you said but leave the cutting till the final end after the clear has dryed
