Re: 1996 Poniac Grand Am water pump
To describe the whole procedur would take a lot of writing. Your best bet is to pick up a "Haynes" repair manual. I don't think the 2001 book is out yet for the Grand Am, but the 2000 one is. The Engines are identical, in fact the cars are pretty much also. The book will cover everything from a simple fix to a complete teardown of the car.
The part number for the book is 38026. It's full description is: General Motors
Chevrolet Malibu (1997 thru 2000)
Oldsmobile Alero (1999 thru 2000)
Oldsmobile Cutlass (1997 thru 1999)
Pontiac Grand Am (1999 thru 2000)
Haynes Repair Manual
Like I said, even though you have a 2001 the book will be fine because both model years a practically identical and the engines are for sure. I paid $21 canadian for mine so in the states it'll probably run you about $15 and should be available at any major auto retailer. If you buy this particular book the info you need will be on page 3-8 and 3-9. This book will be your "Grand Am Bible" and it's worth every penny.
