Angry Clutch '97 Silverado Manual

Have a continuing problem with not being able to shift manual transmission. Problem is very bad in cold weather and almost not existing in hot weather. Brake fluid in clutch master cylinder leaks badly in cold weather, nearly not at all in hot weather. Temp fix is to refill after working the shifter and refilling fluid. No idea where any of this brake fluid is going! No signs on the master cylinder, no signs on the lines from master to slave, no signs in clutch housing underneath. No signs on the ground underneath the vehicle.

Any ideas?

BTW: This transmission was very difficult to shift into 1st gear from day one, all other gears no problem when purchased.

Did you check inside the cab ?? Usually that is where the clutch master cylinder leaks. The fluid is going somewhere and if not on the ground maybe under your carpet.

Re: Clutch '97 Silverado Manual

I bet its leaking in the throw out bearing housing. And mixing with the clutch dust.
How does the clutch feel any slipping or smell or noise

No fluid inside the cab. I suspect it's a worn-out slave cylinder. Look like I have some work to do! Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. There is some slippage so I think you're right. Looks like I'm going to get down and dirty (again!) Probably the slave cylinder, although I'll probably switch out both master and slave due to the age.

Definitely replace both, you will be glad you did. Shouldn't be more than $120 for both at the parts store.
