Airbag light always on. 98 cherokee sportsklater 10-31-2004, 10:36 AM A few months ago as I was driving the tachometer and odometer needles fell and the batter light came on. Within a minute the needles came back on to original position and the airbag light went back off. A few days later the same problem happened. This happened for about two months off and on, and usually i could fix it by hitting the plastic that covers the displays. One time it happened though, the needles fell and the airbag light came on, but when the needles turned back on the airbag light stayed on and has been on ever since. Would this be a wiring problem, a bad airbag, or maybe the chip deploying the airbag? The told me it costs $45 just to have a mechanic scan it, not to even fix it. Is there anything I could do? Could i take the dash off and see if there is a loose wire? Any help would be appreciated. I was also told having that light on can affect my insurance rates, and i dont want that. xj31 10-31-2004, 06:47 PM The most likely cause is corrosion on the connectors for the cluster. If you take it apart you will see black lines on the terminals. There is a bulletin from chrysler about replacing one of the connectors and cleaning the terminals.Tsb # is 08-20-98Any jeep dealer should have the parts Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
