engine swap
Right now i am replacing my engine. i had a 97 ls non vtec and wanted to put in a vtec. i found a 95 vtec and it came with ecu, trans, Distributor, Intake Manifold, Alternator, and power steering. Should i need to change anything else or will everything fit into my car without changing anything?

have you already bought the engine? if not, and you want vtec go with the b18c, they aren't much more $ at all and have a little more power as well... i'm also biast

My opinion is buying the B16a2 it's got 185 hp which isn't too big difference from a Integra type r. I might be mistaken though, but i;m pretty sure a B16a2 is a civic type r engine. I'm ot quite sure about the price difference right now but i think it's a grand between the 2 engines and 25hp ain't worth anoother grand in my opinion, (again on sure on price difference)

Nope sorry dude you do not have a civic type r motor you are thinking of the B16B. The B16A2 will have 160 hp. I would not waste the time swapping in that motor you will hate it for the lack of Tq it has over thw B18B1 you had. My

NO, the b16a2 has 160 hp. The Civic Type R is the B16b.
I wouldn't buy it, you'll have to change over to OBD1 (your car is OBD2). Definently get a B18c (GS-R) motor if you want more power. Or you could just go turbo with your existing motor.

i agree with civic spoon, i just wasn't sure if it was the b16b or b16a2 that was the civic type R. your def. better off with going with a gs-r

How much power are you trying to get out of your car? The b16 is a great motor! I wouldn't worry about a swap. Just get a set of skunk2, stage two cams and bolt ons. Unless your trying to race your car, you should be fine building your engine up. You do have the civic SI engine correct? If not, then ignore everything I just said! If you do, you should consider building it up.

well my engine seazed so i really just need a new one. And i found a b16a2 that was preety cheap so i was going to go with that. But i still want to build it up, nothing real big tho. is it easy to?

Do you want to turbo? If not, you should get a new exhaust system, (Greddy evo, or Skunk2. You can also have a shop custom make one. Ensure the pipe is mandrel bent) New intake system. (You can go with an cold air intake, or short ram intake. AEM is a great name brand) and a new exhaust header. (DC sports makes a good one) Once you've gotten these things on, you can think about upgrading your camshafts and valve train. This will be your biggest power gain. 10-20HP. An aftermarket cat back exhaust can cost around $500, (custom one will be cheaper) an intake will cost you anything from $100-$250. New exhaust header will cost about $150-$450. All these things you can install yourself with little experience. The camshafts and valve train will cost around $900-$1500 for cams, springs, and retainers and install. You might not want to do this your self unless you know what your doing. Hope this helps.

oh man just search around the net. i found my b20b for $600. $700 including shipping. i think you can still get a b18 for around $500 if you look in the right spots. got mine off ebay.

I have similar question to add on to this thread. I am running a 96 LS Sedan (B18B) and found a 94-95 B18C1, with a P-72 ecu. I am not sure that the Ecu is included but I believe this is an OBD-1 engine and I have an OBD-2 car. What is involved in switching from OBD-1 to OBD-2? Anythign besides an ECU and harnes that I can get from a salvage yard? Thanks guys

you have to get an adaptor for the ecu, i dont know how to do it but thats what someone told me.
and does a b18 come in a vtec?
