Turbo Questions 90 series
So I have an 88 90Q with a mildly stunning 245k on the clock. She's a good strong runner and all the other major problems have been addressed, struts, brakes, suspension bushings, leaks, squeeks, etc. She was a tired puppy ready for the Junk yard and now back to a former glory she rides high again.
BUT I am still somewhat unimpressed with the performance going up the mountains in Colorado. She does ok, but I want more.
I have looked at a few peoples turbo conversions and all have been neat but a lot of them have looked botched in one way or another. I am a perfectionist and I want to make this look like it was a stock option. I am also unwilling to sacrafice my A/C, I also don't want to move the battery into the already non-exsistant trunk space.
I have been looking at the 5000's in the Junkyard and it looks to me like there is a possibilty that some of the induction and exhaust may fit. I saw another post with a guy that had taken a 5000T motor and shoved it in. Again it looked like a hack job. No offense, I just wasn't super impressed. But I am looking to pick some people's brains.
I am looking for somebody's diary that has done this, or similar, thoughts, problems, experiances. etc.
The few things I can be specific about are.
It's a 10v 90 Q - I am happy using my existing motor, just changing the induction and exhaust.
I would like to keep my A/C - will the turbo fit around the A/C compressor or am I moving it?
My trunk is small enough - I don't want to move the battery if I don't have to.
I would like to use my existing fuel delivery (CIS III) system, so the trip computer will still function. I don't want to loose functions, just gain performance.
And my last big point is, professionalism. I want to make this look right, not hacky jacky quick make it work. I'll take the time and sift the scrap yards to find stuff that will work on a budget with out compromising my car.
Picky huh. Maybe I should just buy a new car.
