S15 Anime Style W.I.P.asaenz 10-28-2004, 07:56 PM Ok Artists, Here we go. Line drawing. Here I drew all that shapes. I found that allowing the ellipses to overlap the body and then come in w/ the cutting tool was best. I made this car a lot quicker than the Boss Stang. I may go ahead and add the C-west stickers. Now, thx to Lemorris, I will start to add some color. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/35634sh_JGTC_sil15-med.jpg I have been studying the anime style of rendering including Initial D. I have notice that a lot of Initial D artwork has a water color feel to it. I decided to go with more the Automodelista style of anime. I would love to come back and do some water color anime later on. al HighOctaneNOSUser 10-28-2004, 10:03 PM Damn, do people not respond to threads anymore, or is it just me? I made 2 new ones, not a single response on either! But, anyway, nice pic. Is it digital, or drawn then uploaded and gone over, like lemmons does... Automodelista is cool i love the way they're shaded. Can't wait to see it done. PS, it's called cell shading. asaenz 10-29-2004, 07:17 AM Damn, do people not respond to threads anymore, or is it just me? I made 2 new ones, not a single response on either! But, anyway, nice pic. Hummm, I wonder if it is really necessary for me to respond w/ a "quote" when there is just one response....hee hee I know what you mean NOS. I thought perhaps that it was the fact that I was starting to do digital art and ppl didn't appreciate that kind of art. Don't ponder on that fact, becuase I have noticed that in other artforums like artpapa people view way more times than writing responses. I think it is just our nature. I look at a lot of stuff and never respond too. It is digital. I skipped the part of sketching and then tracing in ILL. I just traced the orig. picture as found in my silvia digital art thread. I think I would rather chop in PS (change rims, add blower/pipes (stang) than take the time to draw. My goal is to learn Ill. and PS not draw more sketches and then trace in Ill. However, I am working on a Viper, all natura---ail. You might have to ask Lemorris, but he does complicated compositions for his T-shirts so that is why he sketches first and then import into ILL. Perhaps he just likes doing things that way? My stuff is just simple boring cars, no backgrounds or multi-car positions, so it is not needed that I draw first and then import in to AI. Take care, man. Thx for responding. al Jeep_Rubicon 10-29-2004, 09:27 AM all looks good to me ImolaEK 10-29-2004, 12:26 PM Wow, thats awesome! I love the GT Wing. Looking forward to see how your colouring turns out. asaenz 10-30-2004, 03:59 PM Thx Fellas, so you did this in illy? Yes al HighOctaneNOSUser 10-30-2004, 07:16 PM GOD BONZ, PAY ATTENTION! I will go higher next time and just upload to my site. al Jeep_Rubicon 10-31-2004, 09:10 AM That looks great! Keep us updated HighOctaneNOSUser 10-31-2004, 11:06 AM Sweet man! Onward! asaenz 10-31-2004, 06:54 PM I finished it. It is not perfect, but I like it, for my first artwork. Nothing like Lemorris' work http://aa4jc.home.att.net/wall/s15_toon_fin.jpg bonzelite 10-31-2004, 07:03 PM that is badass. you have taken a giant leap for mankind. how did you get the spokes so damn perfect? i love the touch of flame. HighOctaneNOSUser 10-31-2004, 09:42 PM That's always been Al's trademark bonz, his rims. I wonder how well I can do somethign in paint. I must now test my skills! PS, I love the cell-shady look Al. Jeep_Rubicon 11-01-2004, 04:15 PM That looks great Al, that flame looks awesome. Do more! lemorris 11-01-2004, 08:41 PM Nothing like mine? You're right. It's much better!! You have a great eye. Very nice!! I made another quick thing for you. After our conversation the other day it occured to me that you may be wanting to add tones and shading in Illy. (sorry sometimes my duh-ness rides over all else) in any case check this out: http://www.58vw.com/af/bl.gif I drew a grey box and then I put a simple gradient...white to black over it. In the second column you can see what happens when I set the gradient abjects blending mode to multiply. All the white drops out! It's like blending to transparency. For B and C I used a darker red color. Very cool!!! Where is this blending mode thing? http://www.58vw.com/af/bl2.gif With some careful planning you can build your entire image there if you want. Once again nice work. Do more. -Lemorris Ra_15 11-02-2004, 02:56 PM WOW, amazing job for your first! You can only get better now. Jeep_Rubicon 11-02-2004, 04:05 PM hey Al, how long did it take you to learn this stuff? asaenz 11-03-2004, 08:39 AM how did you get the spokes so damn perfect?. Thx Bonz I used the pen tool. It took a drawing to figure out how to make curves w/ limited anchor points. I still have to figure out how to stroke lines w/ outer stroke vs. inner and outer. I read it some where in my Ill. Bible. I need to find it. You can see that the bottom spokes are skinny. That is because I stroked both sides of the path line. It is just a simple command I need to find it again. It is all in the pen tool. It took me some time, but daaa-ang that tool is awesome and fast. Thx Jeep and Ra15 and Nos for the kind remarks I did that mustang 1st it took me a very long time. This S15 was done rather quickly, but I also was sloppy on my dark tones and the flame high light on the door. I read some stuff at B&Ns and I need to use the lasso tool on the entire side of the car (door) and then gradient fade (yellow) to make it look better. I see the sudden change on the side skirt and that looks bad (yellow). My exp. w/ Ill and PS is about 20 hrs so far. Like I said the tutorials Lemorris posted helped a ton. The cartoon shading is fun and easy compared to what Lemorris does. I am going to do a few more like this one. Thanks Lemorris for posting the Ill. tips. I was just curious as to why ppl color in PS and not ILL. You made it clear why. My big mistake was not outlining w/ pin tool in AI. the tone variations. I went sloppy and used the lasso in PS. See the screw-up on the far side front bumper? Al Jeep_Rubicon 11-03-2004, 03:56 PM Thx Jeep and Ra15 and Nos for the kind remarks Al you deserved it Zwofurti 11-04-2004, 01:52 PM WOW!!!! im stunned!! i've never seen that beatiful digital artwork!! u rock man! stuffbyalex 11-13-2004, 05:05 PM Very nice Al. Glad you're exploring some new mediums. Looks like you have awesome potential as a digital artist! Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
