a/c mildew

Have a 04 TB and a buddy has an 03 with the same problem: mildew in the A/C condenser. During the hot part of the day if it has been sitting and I start the A/C it has a terrible smell coming out of the ducts for a few minutes. Chevy dealer said not to us the recirc mode as it is causing mildew on the unit. They put a cleaner in the condenser unit and it helped for about a month. I have not used the recirc mode since and now not even the A/C as it is cooling down (Phoenix) for the year yet when I kick on the fan during the hot part of the day, the smell is still there for a few minutes. Any suggestions?

Re: a/c mildew

This can be a problem in any number of cars. To help avoid it... turn off the A/C and let the fan run for a minute or two to dry the coils at the end of the day.

Re: a/c mildew

I saw a Two Guys Garage episode that show cased a product to get rid of the smell (try the link below). I haven't tried the product but it sounds like it may be similar to what your dealer did... Let me know how it works if you try it.
