Do I need to buy VW coolent/antifreeze for my 97 jetta 2.0
or can I put anything in... It seems a little low and when stuck in traffic the temp goes up a little. so Prestone or VW$$$ coolent

Just don't use the green antifreeze. Also stay away from the "universal" yellow stuff unless you are completely flushing the system. I've had no problems using the aftermarket red/orange antifreeze for topping off.

hope it just went into the heater core now that the cold is here and I am using the heat and not somewhere else. it was not a lot but I will be watching it for a while.

Most common loss places are the plastic hose flanges on the cylinder head. At least they're inexpensive, even at the dealer.

I've heard several mechanics say the red antifreeze is not good for your engine....but it is good for the environment. They say that the corrosion inhibitor in the red antifreeze is not as effective as the green. And you can use the green in any new car, but you cannot mix the two together.....if you plan on changing over to the green make sure that you flush the system several times with clean water before adding the green.
