Can U swap 3.0 liter into 3.5 liter Montero?Eltyl Enyaw 10-26-2004, 12:17 AM I have a 1994 Montero SR with the 3.5 liter engine. Had the motor looked at for because of hesitation, backfire, and overheat issues. Verdict is that it needs a new top end at a minimum. I would prefer to install a newer motor overall, but 3.5 liters are in short supply and very expensive. Can a 3.0 liter be installed with minimal issues? or are there other options Im not thinking of. thanks damnantz05 11-21-2005, 10:24 PM I have a 1994 Montero SR with the 3.5 liter engine. Who looked at your 3.5? Are you loosing coolant? Did they do a Leak Down Test? Why put a newer engine in? Just rebuild your engine. If done properly it will outlast a NEW engine from Mitsu.
