I have a 1993 Taurus SHO that has a BAD rod knock and I was told that to replace the engine would be $5000. This is money that I am not willing to put into this car. It's a beautiful emerald green, in great shape other than the motor obviously. Does anybody have any suggestions? I don't know if I should try to get a used motor, or part it out. I can be e mailed at tinabickford@comcast.net if anybody has any suggestions :)

For $5k, you can buy another SHO that has been well cared for and modded. You can buy a SHO engine for about $500 on the average.

Check this out. (http://www.shoforum.com/)

I think $5000 is what it would cost to have a Jasper re-mfg installed. Considering you get a 3-year, 75k mile warrant, that's not too bad of a deal.

A used motor is $500 give or take, with install costing $1500 give or take.
