Spark plug wires???

I was looking at http://www.sr20de.net/ and noticed that some modified cars had replaced their spark plug wires. Is there any point in doing this? Does it increase anything? I have a new car, so is it worth replacing them with better ones or no?

I was wondering the same thing. Is it worth the money. If so, what brands really are good? Magnecor ?

Don't waste your money. Unless you have a stupid fast turbo set-up, wires are a waste of money.

The fact is, the factory wires are the best ones available until you run a lot of boost. This is per Clark Steppler of JWT.

Of course, they don't have the boutique appeal of other brands, but if you want something that works the best, stick with OEM and spend your money elsewhere.

One real exception is Nology. There have been *documented* tiny gains with these wires. They are very expensive though. The money is easily better spent elsewhere unless you have a high boost turbo set-up. It's different for turbos because it's harder to get a good spark with a lot of boost.

I've used Magnecor and NGK and for my DET I have.... OEM.

As P10DET said, dont waste your money, the factory ones are o.k.

You will find that alot of these "Show" cars are sometimes only changing them for looks only to make the engine bay nice.

Actually, they are more than OK. They are the best until you get to major boost levels.

factory wires are the best...also, if you were thinking about it, don't waste your money on ignition-type stuff either, the factory ones are very good also :alien:

Yes, NOLOGY wires are expensive. They cost me $180, that was with a slight discount. As a NOLOGY owner they do give a slight kick in the pants. It's more like an ECU re-program with new cams; the hp is slight, but it does wonders for driveability. For someone on a budget (which I wasn't at that particular time) it's probably not worth buying. Although a couple of buddies I know, myself included, wouldn't give them up for the world. The NOLOGY wires give my SR20 a rock solid idle which is an accomplishment with the hot-wire set-ups that SR's have. The love all the little things that they do, especially when turning on the defrost or AC, I don't get that moment of lopey idle. Would I buy them again?.......Only at tax return time. Now that I have, would I give them up?.....NO.

adding nology wires had no effect on peak power but increased power throughout the powerband, increasing power as much a 4 hp and 6 ft/lbs of torque in some places. the most power was found between 1800-4800 rpm.

peak torque was 1 ft/lb higher but this was within dyno error. the
nologies made a noticeable improvement in low end throttle responce and smoothed idle especialy when the engine was cold.

It's not the pants, it the baby smooth butt!:hehe: At least I wasn't the only one that noticed the effects on the engine. The most noticable difference is shifting from first to second. To late, I bought 'em, might as well live with them. HEHEHEHEHEHE

Nology's would give the feel of a wooden spoon to your ass,

if the wires you replaced were fouled.

I just installed the Nology wires I bought in my G20. They don't quite fit nicely they look like they are too big.

I need to get my butt on the dyno and test them out.

I didn't replace fouled wires, the stock ones I replaced are only 6 months old.

GForces- They don't fit properly if you try to put them in the stock location. Mine, like Kojimas, swing down in front of the valve cover, it looks clean.
