My 94 APV van's air conditioner quit working - I found the compressor wasn't running - but that if I reset the van's computer - that it would work for a good 20 mins or so - then stop (the compressor). I am thinking it is the relay? Has anyone had this issue & might know what it is ? I hate to take it to a shop - they always seem to have me spend $800 to $1,000 each trip.

The reason I reset the computer on it was because I replaced the battery and found the only way for it to stay running to reset it - then it was fine.

In my experiences, when the compressor quits running, it's because there is little or no refrigerant left in the system. Try checking that out, you may have a leak somewhere. If the relay was bad, I don't think it would run for the 20 min. or so you said it runs after you reset the computer

I did check the coolant & it was great - in fact I spent all the money for the gauge to check it / the adapter to fill it and the coolant - only to find out after I kept checking it and it was fine for my nephew to say - well, the compressor is not running -
So, I thought maybe the relay thinking it might be it because a reset of the computer would reset the relay...?
I was hoping someone could confirm this before I spent the money for it.
