Having a '96 Sport Blazer and purchasing 2 more Sport Blazers in 2000 (LS & ZR2), was interested in others comments relative to the good and bad points of these newer models.
I drove the '96 between New Hampshire and Buffalo, NY for about 8 months and found it to be reliable and quite good on gas mileage. Have driven the new LS on that trip about 4 times now, and although a good ride, gas mileage not so good. It only has about 6000 miles on it.
I have a '96 4DR LT as my daily driver. I really like it. I have had minimal problems.
I have looked at newer Blazers. They have improved them in the time that I've purchased mine. I'll probably replace mine in about 4 more years. I will probably get another Blazer. I'm not sure if it will be a 4 DR or 2DR yet.

I have a 98 Blazer LS 4x4 which i love. I drove it from Indiana to Florida and got 23 mpg. Which isnt bad for a 4x4. I even got a Dynomax catback and KN air intake system installed. To me the Blazers drive alot better than the ford explorers. I will definately buy another Blazer especially since they have 240hp!:sun:
I personally can't stand the newer blazers. If you want a REAL blazer, check out the older K5 models. Pleanty of power, easy to lift since you don't have to worry about IFS, and a more classic look.
I drove a '98 chevy blazer from souther idaho to souther california and the handling wasnt good at all but the gas mileage was great and one of my break pads fell off along the way so i would have to say that chevy blazers aren't very reliable on long trips, that was about a year ago and nothing has happned to the blazer since then.:bandit:
As far as the handling, its a truck. If you want the qualities associated with a truck, then you shouldn't expect the handing of a car. With the brake pads, had they been changed recently and if so did you do the maintenance or did a shop do it? Just trying to figure out how that happened, sounds weird.
About the handling ur right it's a truck what can i expect. If there's ever something wrong with the truck i take to a professional even if it needs its brakes changed or even an oil changed, i cant figure out why the brake pad fell off its weird to me too, but i still had three left so i didnt worry about it.:bandit:
Well what was the result of the lost brake pads? It seems to me that their was either A) A gross error in the installation of the pads, which again seems weird as anybody with minimal automotive knowledge can do a simple front brake job or B)A mechanical error occured within your Blazer.
If the shop didn't mention any mechanical errors with the truck following the replacement of the lost pad, this would definetly point to a mistake by the installer. I wouldn't be taking my truck back to that guy. If you pick up a Haynes manual on the Blazer you could easily do simple maintenance like this for yourself. You'd learn alot about your truck and would save a little cash. Just my opinion.
Ur right i havent taken it to the mechanic in a long time and its been a while since i've changed the oil, but its still running great. After i found out that i didnt have a break pad it was kinda of expensive because the rotor was all used up and i had to get a brand new one. Damn. I'm thinking of getting a new car but i dont know what kind yet. Any suggestions?? Im still keeping the blazer tho. Since im getting a new car im planning on fixing up the Blazer and turning it into a low rider. Do u guys think it would look tight??? :bandit:
I think it would look shitty. However, its not my truck or my money. If spending thousands of dollars to turn a 4x4 truck into a non-functional, freakish looking sideshow sound appealing, by all means, go for it.
My wife has a 2000 Blazer 2dr LS we bought new. It`s only driven in the winter,and now has 7000 miles on it. The windshield developed a leak at 3000 miles,and the rear rotors needed replacement at 6000 miles due to pitting. Now the vacuum heating/cooling controls are malfuntioning(won`t go to floor mode),and the passenger door seal is leaking. Does she like the truck,HELL YEAH! These are petty problems all covered under warranty,the truck has performed flawlessly otherwise!

Why would your 4X4 be "non-functional" if you closed the gap between the top of the wheels and the wells, eliminated body roll and gave it a lower center of gravity, increased it's cornering capability, traction, and ride quality by smoothing out the bouncy ride for a stiffer, more smooth reacting suspension? Freakish? I guess you don't like Corvettes? Sideshow? You mean like a truck with a wooden bed and bumper jacked up so it would tip over on a slalom coures, all rusty and covered with mud? Oh, I get it!
