Hey all,

I have a 99 4runner and the cd/tape/radio player is giving me trouble. I get an error #1 roughly 50 percent of the time I put a cd in. The other times I get no error. Either way it spits the cd back out. The techs at Toyota had no clue other than to say it's dead.

Ok so it's dead. Can you recommend a good website for aftermarket radio installation parts, ie wiring harnesses and chassis to hold the system. Thanks in advance for your help :D

The lens on the cd player is probably dirty or scrathed. Toyota "says" its dead so you could buy a new one and so they could make money by putting it in your car. If have the time, take the cover off the CD player and clean out the lens, with an air can. Also, if might be completely damaged if the heat has gotten to the radio.

I tried a lens cleaning cd and also compressed air. The problem still exists. Any thoughts on a website that sells components to help install a good aftermarket stereo?

Yea Crutchfield, or SoundDomain, but after you find the one you like, look for it on ebay. There are alot of ebay stores that sell new parts for much cheaper. Also always stick to a brand name, clarion, pioneer ect.

I installed a new Kenwood and I have to say it sounds much fuller and clearer. I'm quite happy and appreciate the tips.
