How do you tell the difference between the 165HP and 200HP 4.3L V6??
How do you tell the difference between the 165HP and 200HP versions of the Chevy 4.3L V6? (the 200HP motor was offered as an option in the '94 Chevy Astro - I don't know about the S10 pickup although it shared the 4.3)
Chevy also made a 4.3L V8, BTW, but it came in the Caprice only. It replaced the 305 as Chevrolet's "standard" V8 engine. It's a 265 cu.in. screamer!
Sorry can't help you with the V6 question. The S-10 4.3 V6 is a good engine, from what I understand. I'd get one of those, lots of aftermarket parts for them, including cams.
I own a 1992 Astro. On that year the 8th didgit of the VIN number is the engine code. The Z engine is the smaller horsepower engine. Also in 1992 the air filters are different. The low horse engine uses a traditional round filter. The high output engine used a flat filter. Hope this leads you in the right direction.
I think what he means is the difference between a regular 4.3 L and a "Vortec 4.3L". Its the vortec that is better, do some research on the internet im sure it has lots of crap on it.
Unbeatable, I have a '94 Safari with the Z engine. 165hp TBI. I believe it is a Vortec as it is cast into my valve covers. The 200hp is CPI & has the remote rectangular air filter. I think in '94 the CPI may have only been 185hp. Not sure. I don't know if there are other differences.
