Arrow Weird light in the dash

Hi, I just bought a 1996 Cavalier in WI, and it keeps turning on a red square with and arrow like the one in the message icon but pointing down to some sort of small waves. Can someone tell me what it is so I can fix it.

Thank you!

Could it be a box indicating a low coolant condition in the radiator----look at your book to see examples of problem areas...brakes, fuel and such...Ed

Re: Weird light in the dash

thats a low coolant level. Prolly a leak in the head gasket. A very common problem with that engine. YOu might e able to get a chevy dealership to fix it for free, otherwise its abut 1,000 bucks.

on the under side of the coolant fill tank you can hit it and it should go out if the coolant level is were it should be, I had the same prob on my 96 and this worked for me.

Re: Weird light in the dash

A lot of times that light comes on due to a faulty low coolant sensor, which would of course be the case if you check the coolant and it full. It doen't necessarily mean a head gasket right away.
